For starters I have a 50" LG (50PC1DA) TV. I also have an LG DVD Recorder (DR1F9H). I only bought the DVD player to match the TV and need a new one. Both units are only about 6 mths old. But now I am looking for a Surround Sound system.

My room set up is in a open floor plan. I am setting it up in my family room with 8' high ceilings. It is open to the kitchen in the rear. Total room size including the kitchen is 15' by 40'.

Problem 1:
It is hard for me to run rear speaker wires to the rear unless I go though the basement (don't want to have to do this). I considered either 5.1 with wireless rear speakers or a simple 2.1. I have no problem replacing my DVD player for an all-in-one piece. (AM/FM/CD/DVD) I do want HDMI output on the unit though.

Problem 2:
The wife, she hates big boomy sound where I love to feel like I am in the movie. She thinks and always will thnk the TV sound is fine. I don't and want more. So again Simple is fine. Nothing to crazy.

Problem 3.
I have a small lost of hearing, so it takes me a little more then normal to hear what is going on. Something that is clear is important.

Last but not least of course is money, I do NOT want to spend a grand on anything. I would like to keep under the $500 to $600 price as the absolute highest. $300 to $400 is real easy to keep the wife happy.

So what is the best to do 2.1 or a 5.1 with wireless speakers. Should I keep with LG or try something different. Please send me model numbers and personal expreince report.

Thanks Everyone that gets involved.
