Opinions? HSU HB-1 vs Ascend Acoustics CBM-170SE

I was just looking for people's opinion between these two specific speakers only

HSU HB-1 = $278 Shipped factory direct
Ascend Acoustics - CBM-170SE = $215 shipped factory direct (don't ask how)

I will be hooking the speakers up to SONIC IMPACT - Super T Amplifier

What do you guys suggest? Which one should I go for if I was to choose strictly between these two?

I would only consider the HSU speakers as part of a HT system.

$215 for the Ascends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer is a no brainer for that price

I may have spoken too soon and put my foot in my mouth on this one. For some reason I was thinking of the SVS speakers. However, the HSU speakers would be a much better match-up with the 170SE's. Off hand I can't recall reading any reviews of the HSU speakers for 2 channel music. Who knows which you would like. My guess would be the Ascends though.

I have the Ascends CBM-170SE as a part of my home theater system and I really love the speakers.

However, I have never heard the HB-1...I do not know if it is better, same, or worse when compared to the Ascends. Furthermore, I know they both have 30 day in home trials but that kind of undermines the price-performance they are intended to serve. With the HB-1, I will lose 56 bucks (28 each way) on shipping should attempt to demo and return them. Not a lot of money but, when compared to the price of the speaker is self (250-pair), thats is 20 percent wasted.

I already found speakers I like more than the 170SE's with HTD's middies. So it would not be worth it to me to risk loosing the cost of shipping. For the bedroom I'd sooner want to try a pair of x-ls speakers than HSU. I find it interesting you wanting to try the HSU speakers instead of simply getting another pair of 170SE's. Why wanting something different if you already know you love the sound of your Ascends?

I like the idea of trying out different brands as well.

If the OP would not tell how he gets CBM-170SE for $215 shipped, we should not provide further inputs That's killer deal!!

Love versus spice, that is the question.

I have heard the two, but not side by side. The obvious difference is the 170SE plays a bit deeper. To avoid the "what ifs".....just compare. Both are great values.

That is a killer deal on the 170SE's though...I'd be all over that.

I cannot remenber but I think the T amp only plays down to about 50 hz.

These are both very good speakers, they are just different. I would say that realistically, extension is very similar between the HB-1 and 170SE's. The main differences would be controlled directivity horn vs soft chambered tweeter.

At that price for the 170SE's, go with the Ascends and don't look back!

Sincerely,
