I'm looking to buy a home theater system. Let me explain my situation and what I'm looking for and hopefully you guys can help me out.
I currently have an LG 37" LCD (the BB Boxing day $999 one -- great deal). I'm looking to get a home theater system now mainly for watching DVDs and maybe to hookup to HDTV/Digital Cable if I get it. Maybe a gaming system someday. Right now I have an upconverting Pioneer DVD Player (DV 490-V). I am not looking to spend too much and I'm not an audiophile that cares too much about Audio, but I do know that even a basic home theater system is a huge improvement over the TV speakers.
I helped my cousin buy a Sony HTIB in the summer (not sure what the model it was, but it didn't have a DVD Player, was a 6.1 with a Receiver). I am personally looking for a similar system, even 5.1 is adquate. All the systems I've seen at BB/FS seem to have a built in DVD player which is something I'm not really interested in because I have my external DVD Player. Besides, I might get a PS3 or XBOX360 eventually which will dual as my DVD player and I can get rid of this Pioneer. I don't want a system that has a built in DVD Player because having that with an external player is useless (and kinda ugly...).
Oh. And a question, is there any benefit to having the HTIB system have a built in DVD player? I would think it's worse because when new technology comes out you're stuck with your DVD player built in.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can buy? Here are my requirements in point form for easy reading
- HTIB
- No built in DVD player
- Around $300+ CDN
- Nothing too powerful, for a small appartment
- Good inputs (TV/DVD Player/Gaming Systems)
- Should look nice (it should be black in colour!!)
- Controllable by the Harmony 880 Remote
