Another Subwoofer Dilemma

I run a dedicated theater and previously had an Infinity IL-120 (500W RMS 12" ported sub) powering the low end of the theater. I really liked the sub, but had an opportunity to buy TWO other infinity subs, and thought I'd give it a try.

So I sold the IL-120 and replace it with two Infinity 10" sealed 650W subwoofers (CSW-10). I've tried many different positions for these two subs and also have an HK AVR 745 which will EQ two subs. I've also run rabos (subs) and the EZ-Set EQ (AVR 745) in several different room positions.

Basically, what it boils down to is that I'm just not happy with the performance of the two 10" subs in my system. My old 12" IL-120 actually pleased me more than both of the 10" subs. The low end appears to be weak compared to even my one 12" IL-120, even though the 10" subs are pretty musical.

So, I'm looking at swapping out the two 10" subs. I'll need to sell these two subs for money to buy a new one.

Assuming I could get about $750-$1000 used for the two 10" Infinity subs (the MSRP on them is $1000 each), I'm looking at SVS and HSU subs. After reading Criag's review of subwoofers, I'm leaning toward the HSU VTF-3 HO (~$1000 shipped).

I'd really like to get two of these but I think my budget will only allow for one currently. My room is about 2080 ft^3 (13x20x8).

Do you think 1 HSU VTF-3 HO will be enough to pressurize this room? The room is not sealed and has two open corridors on one side. My concern is that I just don't want to downgrade performance by going from 2 10" 650W Infinity's to one 12" HSU VTF-3 HO.

The infinitys are rated to 23Hz (-3db) but really don't seem to fill my room very well. The HSU seems to go lower with more authority based on reading reviews.

Any other recommendations in the $1000 price range? What do you guys think? I'd like to stay at 12" or larger.

The VTF-3HO should perform well in a room that size. However, I do suggest that you contact HSU with the details and they will be more then happy to provide the input you're looking for.

Thanks mailiang. I called HSU yesterday but all their techs are at CES. I plan to try and give them a call after CES is over.

I was also curious to see what size/volume of room AVS'ers out there have that own HSU subs and what they think of their situation (1 sub is enough, need 2 subs, etc).
