Sweetness. So much for 11:1.

Sadness!

I wonder how long the theory about PS3 not helping Blu-Ray will continue to be suggested.

I can say with certainty my buying of Blu-Ray titles has gone up 100% since hooking up the PS3.

Master and Commander!!!! Independance Day! Man on Fire! Butch Cassidy!

Great titles! I can't wait!

Nice to see it's an objective source

Add at least two thirds of those 300 HD-DVD titles and that is some impressive year for Blu-ray!

Just go to DVDEmpire and check the main page for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and check their stats. 20%+ for Blu-Ray sounds about right

First of all, this is a FOX press release with research done by themselves (Proprietary Fox Research incorporating industry data shows Blu-ray Disc eclipsing HD DVD on a weekly sales basis as noted in chart below.) Hardly an unbiased report. And where's the chart?

"Blu-ray sales performance surpassed HD-DVD for the first time the week of December 24 and did so by an impressive 20 per cent." These comments very cleverly omit whether hardware was included in these figures, which would obviously include the PS3 as well. What exactly is "sales performance"? -- sounds like the usual Mike Dunn spin that he has used for months before his company even had a disc on the market! If it's strictly software sales, then where did the data come from? I haven't heard a hint of software data from the BD side since day 1! Certainly, they don't have access to HD-DVD software sales from 3 weeks ago...where did it come from?

And lastly, HD-DVD have not even had an announced title in a month (other than Weinstein releases) while BD titles have been announced steadily. In other words, there haven't been any new HD-DVD titles to even order for supporters of the format. Now that CES is on, we're hearing the new release titles and dates and will have a slew of new pre-orders available to purchase. Personally, I've been sitting on $300 in amazon gift cards from Christmas that are ready for pre-orders that aren't up yet.

As for the new Fox titles, enjoy them if it's the format you've picked. I would have bought a few on the list had they been released on HD-DVD.

That's a fair comment. But I can hardly blame people here for being pleased with that when HD DVD fanboys were screaming "11:1" all the time, and I don't think that even had a legitimate source, some guy just made it up.

By the way, that's some impressive release list!!! If they're releasing those titles now, I can only imagine that they're going to double dip down the line and/or they really want to put a lot of pressure on Universal.

Well at least you're honest, not like some of the "I'll never buy or watch another Fox product again" crowd. Frankly, some of those titles I would consider buying on BD that I wouldn't have thought about on DVD. Fox are really wheeling out the big guns

In my 10 years of being employed, I've never called out sick; however, I think if I read one more of your posts, I might end up shattering that streak. Seriously, give the shit a bloody rest.

"It's the Software Stupid" My answer to everyone I speak to about who will win this format war.

There is absolutely no suprise here that Blu-ray is now outselling HD-DVD. Now that it has happened it will never end.

Don't take it seriously Vipper. This is only an Internet Discussion Board. Have a little fun. I had my times of feeling down and out too in this format war.

Well, I guess the best way to counter immaturity is to engage in it yourself; it's not like BR fans screaming about this is somehow is better than HD DVD fans screaming about software sales in general. You would think that an intelligent person or group of people wouldn't be screaming about anything related to sales of items they gain no financial reward from.

I also wouldn't consider "proprietary Fox research" to be a "legitmate" source; they just made **** up and issued a press release. Until NPD or similar numbers come in we have no idea.

That's thing though Bar, we do have finances involved in this war. I personally own two PS3's and have spent $920 on them and if the Blu-ray technology fails, I am out that money for the most part. Same thing for my software. So yes, there is a big financial aspect to this war and that is why it is so heated.

In a way it has become like a sporting event. Some people support the Blu-ray Team and some support the HD-DVD Team. When your side has a win, of course you will celebrate and that is what we are doing here with today's sales numbers. We have been told for months how HD-DVD was kicking our butts in sales and now the tide has turned and we are ahead by 20% Damn right we will Celebrate!!

They are legitimate. That doesn't mean their claims are true or accurate but I put more faith in a statement from Fox or Toshiba than someone saying "I heard.......". I realise that that sets the bar low to begin with but there you go

I think he may be enjoying this TOO much but the HD DVD guys had similiar reactions in several of the 50GB HD threads.

And how is this my problem or the BDA's problem? There are supposedly 10 million Xbox 360 users out there, many of which either bought the HD DVD addon or received it for Christmas. You're telling me that because the HD DVD camp has been sitting on their hands for nearly two months by not bringing anything new to the market, that the "new" members of the HD DVD family did not buy anything? Every single release for March to the week before and after Christmas were just lying there on store shelves? I guess the HD DVD blow their junk in a move to build up their prestige and incorrectly discounted the PS3 as having any impact.

I think it's time to actually take a look at the chart:

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/...ItemId=1528522

Basically, Fox is predicting that Blu-ray sales will continue to rise and rise while HD DVD sales will remain totally flat with absolutely no change through 2011.

Yeah, that not at all misleading.

Yeah, pretty optimistic

Yeah what is up with the graphic 12/25/10?

Is that a typo or are they expecting Blu-ray to pass HD-DVD in 2010?
I don't think its a typo. I think thats when they plan on releasing star wars and indiana jones.
