Need some assistance -- Wharfedale?

Long time lurker here needing some advice before I drop the hammer!

My living room is 18x13 with 18' ceilings. Right now I've got an Athena Micra 6 system and a Panasonic XR55 (i'll be replacing the receiver) and they just don't fill the room with sound like they did in the little apartment I was in previously. A friend of mine has a pair of Diamond 8.2 bookshelves and they sound nice to me...

Here's what I'm looking at for a 5.1 Setup:

4 Wharfedale Diamond 8.3's = 250/pair shipped from Amazon
1 Wharfedale Diamond Center = 136 shipped from Amazon
1 Cadence XSUB12 = 249 shipped from Cadence

Suggestions/advice???

This setup has to last me for the next 5-8 years because the wife says, so I need some quality speakers!

Oh, and I'm trying to keep the total price for all the speakers below $900.

I've learned a lot from you guys, so thanks in advance!

Sounds like a killer deal!

The midrange of the 8.3 is nice.

But remember the 8.3 are inefficient at .......86db. I'm not familiar with the XR55, so make sure it delivers good clean power.

Don't forget to do something to tame down the room acoustics. Especially with four floorstanders in the room and a sub.

how would one go about taming down the room acoustics? I could get the Diamond 8.2's for the same price...would that help?

also, i'm replacing the receiver with either an Onkyo, Denon, or Pioneer (somehing with HDMI switching/upconversion).

thanks,
j
