Is it worth 'upgrading' from LCD to a Projector (Hd70)?

Here is my situation:

I currently have a Sharp 32 inch LCD. I use it almost only for gaming/movies. I am one of those people who is quite sensitive to blurring. I love playing FPS games, and this LCD is starting to bother me as I can defenitly tell that it blurs. I was thinking of getting the Optoma Hd70 projector hoping to solve this problem, but recently I went to the movie theater (something I don't do much), and I noticed that the picture there seemed to blur as well. This is not something I notice on CRT of Plasma sets.

I went to Best Buy where they carry the projector, and the sales clerk said that the projecter would in fact blur a little, but he had not actually seen it on. I asked if I could see it on, and he said that they wouldn't be able to get it set up.

Does this projector blur? If it does, then I might as well keep my LCD.

I'm not interested in getting a huge picture. I just want a good picture. I cannot get a CRT or Plasma tv due to physical size issues.

Your input is appreciated.

Motion blur is more a problem with LCD's refresh rate. DLP has rainbow effect where the R, G, B may separate into rainbow flashes of light if your eyes are susceptible (10% of population) but does not have motion blur. If you're not interested in a big picture in the dark then get a decent LCD panel with faster refresh rate. PJ has $300 bulb every 2000 hours. Thus, unless you want to play at huge sizes, PJ does not make sense for your needs. Save your money for a decent LCD panel.

In my searching I have not found any LCD panels that suit my needs, as they all currently have poor refresh rates (blurring).

If you are telling me that this Optoma Hd70 projector does not blur (it is a DLP) then it would in fact suit my needs. Is this what you are implying?

It would get rid of the blur, but it might not suit all your needs. Projectors are very different than a typical TV (ie they don't respond well to a lot of on and off switching, require bulb replacements, and require light controlled environments). I consider a projector a supplament to, rather than a replacement for, a traditional TV. Others here will disagree with that though.

You can get a top tier 42" plasma for about $1300 now, so that might be a better replacement for your needs.

I can control the room and get it totally dark, and am prepared to replace the bulb when needed. I would not watch tv with it...only movies and games.

Getting a plasma is not an option, as I move frequently (2-3 times per year), and often I simply do not have the space in which to fit a large set.

How hard is it to set up a projector? I would be setting it up on a table.

DLP has its own motion artifact "D". No?
When it comes to motion I much prefer LCD and CRT over DLP.

I'm not real sure what you're talking about. What do you mean motion artifact 'D'?

Go n do a demo on a DLP projector n see if you have rainbow eyes. If no, then your question is answered.

With DLP watch for dithering and RBE which show up in clips with motion more often than static images.

I spent the day looking at a couple DLP projectors, and I don't see any RBE. Guess I'm lucky.

I'm sorry to ask again, but do DLPs have any blurring associated with them? I play a lot of FPS games, and blurring (like I have on my LCD) drives me crazy.

I do not have the option of ceiling mounting the projector, and would have to table mount it. Is this difficult to do?

Regarding mounting (ceiling or table), one important feature (or lack thereof) is lense shift, combined with zoom range. Be sure to study the capabilities of any projector you are considering. Mitsubishi has a nice calculator that shows you where the image is relative to projector placement, and from my brief look at it, projectors without lense can be VERY inflexible with respect to placement.
