Official Philips 47" 1080p LCD 47PF9441D Thread

Does anyone know the price that this set will cost?

I've heard several people say that the picture on these new Philips with Pixel Plus 3 HD is breathtaking, the absolute best PQ they have ever seen.

So I was disappointed after reading that it does not mention supporting 1080p input signals in the specifications.

Earlier to day I called Philips and spoke with a technician who confirmed this data, although he sounded rather like he was merely reading the specifications and didn't care or have any first-hand knowledge of the model.

Knowing that manuals for technology products have a HIGH rate of errors, omissions or misprints for various reasons I am hoping that it just isn't listed correctly.

Seems it would be extremely dim of Philips to release a 1080p set that cannot accept 1080p this late in the game.

I am also looking at this model. Very disappointed that it will not do 1080p, but it if has good contrast then that may be better than a set that does have 1080p but poor contrast (like the Vizio V47). Not sure which one I will buy yet until I see them out and displayed. The kicker will be the price, and it is not mentioned on the Costco website (although they do at least have this model listed now). I am hopeful that they will have the price and specs on the website before the coupon for the Vizio expires.

I can't find a price for this TV anywhere on the web. I know you can't post it here, but could you post a link to where I might find the price? Is it even in the same league as the Vizio 47?

Also, does this set take direct 1080p inputs, or does it upscale/convert them?

Price has not been set yet by Costco. You will need to keep checking their website under LCD displays to see when they update it with the pricing.

Is this set exclusive to Costco's, or can you buy it somewhere else? I was just hoping for a general price. If it's $500 or more than the Vizio, I'm really not interested in it.

Aha, found a price, it's not in the same league as the 47" LCD Vizio. It's pretty much in the league of the new Vizio 60" Plasma.

Has anyone reported seeing this model at CES ? I am not sure if it was even there, but if it is maybe someone can confirm the spec sheets accuracy.

We still don't know the Costco price, that's the MSRP and discounts abound.

So it looks like this tv doesnt have a computer RGB connection to it? Or am i not seeing this correctly?

I don't see it either, so it looks like it won't work as a computer monitor unless you have a DVI-HDMI cable for your computer. (Unless you have a computer video board with HDMI out). This would also mean it won't work with an XBox360 VGA output. Bummer.

I called Costco customer service and they told me the price, PM if you want to know.

Price difference from Vizio is alot less than $500.

Well I just called philips support for info, and according to the woman I spoke to, this set does take a direct 1080p input, no down/up scaling. Looks like another misprint on the web.

Any idea on how many bit color processing this display has? Can't find it on the specs. Vizio 47" has 8-bit processing and I hear it produces some banding which really bugs me.

Feature wise the Philips has a USB port for plugging a memory stick with photos that the Vizio does not have but the Vizio has a PC RGB input port that the Philips doesn't.

dont understand when you say that this set will not do 1080p. do what? also been reading your postings on vizio 47 thread. question for you...since i am not a gamer...which 47, from your looking into both tvs, would suit me best.

That is a good question, and I don't know the answer yet. I haven't seen the Phillips model yet. So far it looks like the Vizio has more options on inputs (esp. the VGA port), but the Phillips has a nice USB port if you wanted to plug your digital camera into it. I haven't been too impressed with the contrast on the Vizio's so far, and I don't know if the Phillips is any better. I don't believe the specs on either as far as dynamic contrast goes.

This was looking good until there was no VGA connection, and the 1080p situation doesnt sound too good. I will continue looking at other TVs to upgrade to until more information becomes available on this model.

guess i'm running a little behind but i'm just learning of the philips 47. looks like a pretty nice tv. i read in one of these threads that the same company makes the lcd panel for lg, philips & vizio. is this to say the these tvs are lincoln, mercury & ford? they sure seem to be priced that way. also contrast on phillips is 4000:1 (stated)...vizio is 800:1 or 1600:1... not sure about the lg contrast ratio.

I'm looking at the Costco page on this tv and it clearly says RGB by AV1, so what makes you think it doesn't have vga? Secondly, neither this tv nor the Vizio say that they support 1080p. Until they put that in writing, on their website or manual, I won't beleive otherwise.
And, I agree that it is pretty idiotic that they don't support 1080p.

Does that price include shipping? The Costco description says it will ship by freight carrier. That sounds expensive. If the shipping is included, then this tv is a viable alternative to the Vizio.
Also according to the Costco description this set does have vga.

Philips/Vizio, if your looking at both prices after the coupon, the Philips will only be $50 more.

Is that from actually seeing/viewing this specific new Vizio, or just by the supplied data of the contrast ratio and what you have seen in older Vizio's?

This is incorrect, the difference is $350 according to the prices i was given.

From the price I was given in the store 3 days ago it would be $50 less then the vizio after coupons. Now if someone could find a nice review on this I would be tempted in this over the Vizio.

But something you should know, this tv is supposed to be web only so no shows on the floor room for demo.

They will have this TV at the 'Home' store in WA, which is in Kirkland, on or about the 21st of this month. You may want to check the main store in your area, it is the one that distributes merchandise to the other stores in the area.

And I can assure you that this TV is not less than the Vizio, but if I'm wrong...please tell me where you live so I can buy it there

I owned a V46, but ended up giving it to my sister last weekend. Was not impressed with the contrast even after calibration, but it will be fine for them as they are not a picky as I am. Perhaps the V47 is better, and I have only seen it in a local Costco under warehouse lighting. Didn't look any better to me, but I don't know how they had it set up, could have been in torch mode.

I read that as well, but I don't know if it was true as there was no official link to back it up. Could be true, but I would want to see more evidence. The 4000:1 for the Phillips is a dynamic contrast, just like the 1600:1 is the dynamic contrast of the Vizio. Not sure how they calculate those numbers, most of it is fluff.

If you look at the product spec for the Phillips, you can see the back panel and there is no VGA connector. It also does not state it will accept a 1080p input. Picture of the back of the Phillips 47"

Vizio V47 does have a VGA connector (although it is limited to 1366 x 768,) but it will accept a 1080p input signal on HDMI or component inputs as has been verified by several owner and is listed in their specs. V47 Specs Link
