Today I sent back my Xbox 360 HD DVD Player

It was necessary. Most likely I will consider LG's combo player if they can get their HD DVD issues sorted out, though honestly with the new releases calendar for HD DVD slowing to a trickle even a crippled combo player with bare minimum HD DVD support would be probably be all right.

The release schedule for HD DVD is looking increasingly grim compared to Blu-Ray. Nobody (and by Nobody I mean Universal ) has stepped up the plate and for HD DVD. Meanwhile Disney and Fox are about to unleash their promised dark army of Blu-Ray releases, and Warner is now purposely holding back finished HD DVD releases in order to prepare simultaneous Blu-Ray releases. Obviously in the future Warner will move to the Total HD combo discs. I don't see any movement from anybody in the Blu-Ray camp in the direction of HD DVD and I'm not surprised.

It's been a good run for HD DVD, but the party is over, the fellowship is broken, and the Dark Lord Sonyron has assembled his massive armies in Mordor for the final battle to cover the world in a second darkness. I'm rooting for Sonyron, because he promised me movie releases beyond my wildest imaginations.

The end is near. We must join with Sonyron. He gave me the choice of aiding him willingly, and I accepted. Don't choose the way of PAIN!

"Sonyron"... classic.

I'd keep it! Even *if* HD-DVD goes the way of the DoDo bird (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodo) I'd bet it will fetch a nice E-Bay premium in the future.

It's not over!! Have to keep it to play what I have anyway. This is just

nerviousness. The power of the dark side is strong.

Wrong movie.

Wrong movie.

Lucky (or with great foresight and wisdom) for me during the time I owned the player I only rented the movies I watched from Blockbuster. I have zero investment in content.

Nobody gave me a T-shirt...I got totally ripped off.

He won't return it. Doesn't make sense to take back a <$200 player and spend ~$1200 at this point.
$1200 for the combo player or keep your HD-DVD add-on, buy a PS3 and you still come out ahead cost-wise in addition to having two kick @$$ gaming systems.

I think everytime someone thinks of returning the HD DVD add-on - it is newsworthy enough to have a thread of its own in the main area - I think the add-on is doing really well

Time to mop up...

Humm let see.. now we know all title that will be released on BluRay until June (except Warner). We know what of HD DVD?, January.... I would have been cool if they could give us dates, but just like E3 is for VideoGame, CES is just SmokeScreen..

When Sonyron produces a $199 Blu-ray player, count me in.

Otherwise I stand with Migondorsoft.

You probably spent a lot of time at www.alliwantforxmasisapsp.com. And you probably have a rootkit on your hard drive, might want to check that out.

You keep your movies. I'll keep my dignity.

You do know that your hd-dvd wasn't actually $200. You need a 360 to play it. If it could stand on its own then it would be $200. But you paid $400 for the system then 200 for the addon. When you could have saved $100 and bought a ps3 with the format that will win the format war....looks like you lost.

Sonyron... Migondorsoft.... this stuff is too funny!

I haven't seen these "nicknames" ever before. I'm laughing so hard this crazy format war doesn't seem all that bad right now.
The newer Toshiba player is already $400 and far better than this disc drive (yes it's not a player, just a drive).

I'll hold on to mine to play Universal titles for the next year.. then sell it to someone when Universal goes neutral.

You do know that the incremental cost was $199 (or $160 for most of us). Looks like you need a lesson in economics.

Today I blew my nose.

I agree. Self-obsession is always a fun way to start the day.
I normally don't post to threads like this, but this is getting sad. Why so many threads about this? Can people not go to one that is already started?? Maybe we need a sticky for returns/changing sides. I just don't understand what people mean slow releases or trickling. They announced they would release 300 titles. I know I cannot or will not buy 300 titles. Besides, how many good movies have we had in the past year. I did not buy a sorry movie on standard DVD and I'm not going to buy it in HD either. What gives people? Do they have to announce every title and copy Sony?? Come on folks, this is pretty crazy................ Rant off..................
Um, not to be a spoil sport, but things didn't work out so well for Sauron despite his vast armies. He got pwned, in case you didn't notice.

Other than that, this thread is nothing particularly new. People will switch from supporting HD-DVD to supporting Blu-Ray. People will switch the other way. People will go format neutral. People will stay format exclusive. People will wait for a dual-format player. People will buy one player for each format. Sony will alwyas suck.

These things are unchangeable, and not necessarily newsworthy.

Well, I'm keeping my PS3, already took back my Toshiba A2, and I'm taking back my HD-DVD drive (and maybe even the XBOX if the new HDMI model is real). I just don't see the point if Warner titles will have parity with new BD/HD-DVD releases. Warner is all HD-DVD has going for it right now beyond what Universal might release from their back catalog.
