PS3 input sources are different for G70

Thread Starter
i have a G70 and a PS3.
the PS3 is outputing different sources depending on what type of game movie and so on...480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p.
the problem is that the G70 thinks it is one source hence the set up changes depending on what the output of the PS3 is, at the time. for each different source i have to change the convergence on the G70, because the G70 wil only remember one setup for each source.
what i would like to do is have the G70 change setups for each output from the same source. i hope that makes sense.

You can't set the output resolution on the PS3? That worries me a little since I'm planning to get one soon for my G70.

I know that it doesn't allow upconversion for dvd's, but that's supposed to be solved with a firmware upgrade in the future.

yes you can set the output on the PS3. but the G70 thinks it is the same signal.

you can setup up to 10 individual memory (whatever they're called) for each memory block. You will need to switch them manually, but at least they can be saved.
I know how to get into the menu to switch these, but not knowledgeable enough to describe which page of the service menu and which tab without having it in front of me.
If you don't get a responce, i'll look it up for you when I get home.

my past experience with memory and the G70 is that it remembers 99 different inputs and whatever chages you make for that input it will save. so the next time it receives that particular signal it knows to go to those settings that you saved. the 0-9 you cant make any changes to them. at least i can't even in service mode.
the problem is, that the G70 is not compensating for different inputs from the same source.
am i the only one with this problem??????

Each of those 99 (not sure if it's that many...but anyway) have 10 more (as a sub-set)that can be enabled to fine tune the memory block for the exact problem you describe......well it's there more for different devices that lock onto the one (shared) memory block, but with minimally different signals, not enough for the machine to automatically assign a new block, but different enough to screw up you registration.

i would love it if you could show me how. i thought i had been all through the menus thouroughly. i have never been able to save in the presets. also have never been able to choose a memory number either.

The subset of 10 is called "Video Memory" under menu item #2

I have the same issue with my OTA HD receiver and XBox running component switched through my pre-amp. I use video memory to correct the XBox over scan and size issues.

Sorry Darind, I was going to get back to you on this...video memory...that's it, you can choose to have video memory on or off...once enable you have the choice of 1 thru 10, play the source & desired scan rate, select video memory number, adjust registration, SAVE the data, rinse repeat....

I'm using a PS3 with my G70 and the only thing I have to use the "video memory" for is to pillar box dvd's that are 4:3.

But,.. I haven't put down the sixaxis controller long enough to fully calibrate so I don't know how much things are off. Seems to me the 720p and 1080i may share a bit of memory space but the 480p is in another band or block.

It's not the resolution that determines whether a memory block changes, it's the frequency. Although I'm not familiar with the PS3, I believe that all their outputs have a refresh rate of 60Hz. There was a post a while back where someone that was using the "component" input on the G70 had a problem where the memory blocks weren't changing. In any event, using the "Video Memory" on the first page of the menu will solve the problem of convergence errors between the different sources on the same memory block.

The standard PJ-1000 remote that comes with the G70 doesn't allow you to change video memories, however, the PJ-1001 that comes with the G90 and some other Sony digital projectors WILL allow you to change Video Memories from the remote.

Because of this problem, if anyone is using a programable remote (like the Theater Master, etc.), I can give you the code file that will allow you to switch Video Memories from the remote. In fact, I can even have the complete G70 remote file for the Theater Master remotes (MX-700-950, MX-3000) including the Video Memory.

Bruce,

I'll have to check the IR codes I have, sounds like I could use some of the codes you have.

I emailed codes to Logitech to add to thier Harmony database from pronto files, but I don't know if those were in there. I've been going through the menu to choose different video memories.

Unless the Video Memory codes were captured from a PJ-1001 remote, then you didn't have them, since you can't get them from a PJ-1000 remote.
