Well, Warner has amp'd up the wattage....hmmm....one hell of a bluff, or maybe this THD thing isn't the vaporware we think it...
As of late 2007, *all* Warner HD releases will be THD. From the head honcho himself, quoted in today's CED. Other execs had hinted at such, but he went ahead and made it official...once they have THD smoothly running at Cinram (target late 2007), they won't be doing Blu-ray or HD DVD pressings....only THD. All releases. Catalog and day and date.
Cinram was quoted that relication issues are not a problem: they will have to use 3 lines, though, one for the Blu-ray side, one for the HD DVD side, and one to sandwich the two together. Costs are expected to be on-par with existing combo formats. Rumors of horrendous cycle times have been overstated, yada yada yada...it's no harder than making an Oreo. A very, very expensive Oreo.
Also, Cinram has finally confirmed that they will be able to replicate BD50 this year, once they get certification from the BDA...they have a line in-house, they're playing with it. No extact timeline was released though...I would suspect sooner rather than later.
P.S. All Warner affilifate studios will go THD exclusive as well (HBO, New Line, etc.).
P.P.S. Technicolor is also prepped to do THD...Thomson execs said so themselves.
