I think this issue was part of the concern, because DVD Player/Front Row don't do hardware acceleration. (This may improve with the release of Leopard.) There wasn't much post processing available for DVDs, either.
I don't think anyone claimed the Core Duos were underpowered (at least for anything short of HD H.264), just not fully exploited by Apple. Hence the dual boot to MCE and hopes for Leopard.
Beside RTV .mpgs, I want to play .vobs and .ts up to 1080i. Currently I'm juggling an RTV, a modded Xbox/XBMC (not used much lately) and a PhotoBridge/MPlay (stutters on some RTV files--GOP length?) to the TV. My wife has gone catatonic. Need to simplify.
I had hoped for a C2D update to the mini.
