AP summary of hi-def format war events at CES

Nothing is new to anyone here of course, but just thought people would be interested in what J6p would be reading about CES format war news/announcements. I was pretty impressed with the article considering the audience it was catering to, it got almost everything right and was pretty thorough too. The linked story about the LG player from the article even mentions the fact the LG player won't support all HD-DVD features.

Let's be honest. How expensive would it have been for the studios to support both platorms? Costs will eventually decrease and the market will take car of itself.

Now you have content providers slicing up the market in some vain attempt to prevent a war that doesn't really need to exist.

Joe Six Pack doesn't read about CES news. Only enthusiasts do that.

what BS, people in my office were talking about things at CES because they were on front page headlines of Yahoo and MSN news. There are plenty of people interested in movies and flat panels that don't come to AVS. CES isn't just about hidef discs.

It's not BS at all. Your anecdotal evidence proves nothing. If you had spent 30 years looking at awareness data among representative samples of the total population (like I have), you would know that your office observations are not representative of anything other than the few people you're speaking about.

What I've heard about from my non-geek colleagues now is that.

1) The iPhone looks cool.
2) The iPhone looks cool.
3) What's the big difference between Blu-ray and HD DVD anyway? I'm not buying though.
4) The iPhone looks cool, but when is Canada getting it?

That was from the MacWorld Expo. But here is Steve Colbert talking about the iPhone

i won't go as far as to say that's BS, but MSNBC has a whole section front on CES. J6P, for the most part likes new fangled technology, even if they don't take the time to know all the details. CES is being covered by mainstream press for that very reason, to dumb it down and pull the info together in a short article so they can read about it while looking at the news during lunch.

wow I guess my company is the only one in the nation that has people that

1) are interested in buying flat panel TVs
2) look at internet news.

We aren't even a tech company!
