We need more details:

Is the coax cable from the wall hooked directly to the TV? Sounds like it since you have no cable box. If this is the case, the LG LCD will probably have a stereo out jack named something to the effect "Audio Out" "Monitor Out" - just feed this output to one of your receivers remaining inputs (Aux or Tape). Make sure you turn the volume down to 0 on the TV so your father only hears his surround speakers.

Lastly, tip of the day - get a high definition cable box. That 30" LCD (I assume its widescreen) deserves some hi def. I am pretty sure it will support it. Once you see Hi-Def there is no going back to Standard Def.

that sounds like it. you can also check with that book that comes with the LCD TV. I think they call it a users manual

It is most likely a fixed output. In some cases they are variable which means the gain is controlled by the LCD's volume control > not good in your scenario. I'd have to check the manual though

Yes but this is usually the exception than the rule. It is rare a TV will only have a variable output. Usually it will have fixed and a variable or the variable can be made fixed with a menu item in the TV's setup. As for the threads, your profile should be setup so that you get email notification. Click the button called thread tools to see if you are subscribed to this thread.

I don't use the subscription feature b/c I don't want to get my email account loaded up--there can be many posts every day while I am at work. Here's what I do:

I go the the Member's list and find my user name. Click on the user name and you'll get a profile, plus on the left side there'll be two links, one to "Find all threads started by member" and the other to "Find all posts by member". If you are looking for only "your" threads, meaning those you start, just click on that link and you'll be all set. You can still find replies you post in other's threads regardless of whether you remember which thread they were in or not by using the other link. I almost always "title" my replies so that they are easier to find using that "Find all posts by member " link.
