I have this on order with Amazon.
Has anyone received their copy?
If so, how does it look?

I have such high expectations on this one.

I loved this documentary!

I guess when the inevitable day comes that I add Blu-ray to the stable this will have to be one of my discs.

Actually out of all the HD-DVD fanboys, you and Midnight Watcher are my favorites to read. You should get a PS3 and get in with us now murch. I think you could add a lot of positive talk to our discussions over here owning Blu-ray firsthand.

If it's any consolation I am hoping your Sea Hawks pull it out this weekend. Grossman looks terrible.

Sometimes I ask myself why I'm so doggone stubborn about this battle. I guess it's just the thrill of competition.

HD DVD has a year to make stuff happen. In 2008 I won't deprive myself of any movies. Both formats are certainly making each other better. The improvement in quality hardware and software is happening at such a pace I can't fault any of you for wanting to overdose on this stuff.

Yeah, I hear ya, I am the same way, just the other side of the isle. Tonight my wife and I just watched "The Transporter" and it was a very fun movie. From the list of upcoming Blu-ray releases there have to be a number of those movies you want to see in HD? I say why wait, enjoy them now. I have an HD-A1 for exclusive Universal titles I can't wait to see on Blu-ray.

Think of it this way, if you get a PS3 for your Blu-ray viewings you could always sell it at a decent price if you decide you do not want Blu-ray. Why? Because it is a gaming console, so there will always be a market for it. Look at the PS2, it is still the top selling console, even beating the Xbox 360 and the Wii.

I just do not think you should deprive yourself of the awesome HD that is currently out there and the new HD which is just around the corner.

Yup I want to get winged migration also, it was an excellent film and looked wonderful on Discovery channel HD, so Im hoping this will look better.

They pushed it back. No confirmed date.

I watched this film awhile back on DVD and they recently showed in on Discovery HD channel.

I'm sure it will look fantastic on BlueRay/ HD (whichever format it's released on)

It gets a little boring to watch as its the same story over and over with different birds. The close ups in flight are really cool.

Certainly a worthy own to show off a player and HD TV

Here we go. Musical release dates. This title has been on again, off again, and now it's on again- set for this week's release- Jan 16. If only Crouching Tiger was put back...

In any event, I preordered this a few months back with Amazon Prime, so if it is indeed coming out this week I should have it by Thurs.

I think this is by Sony Classical, I think, which is basically SPE. They may have this in the can long ago and probably worried that the print they got is not clean enough. But then it is a documentary.

I think it's much, much more than just a documentary. And it deserves a pristine and highest quality transfer.

Well, I have DVR'ed the version that ran on DISC-HD a few weeks ago, so if it shows up this week we'll see how much better it is.

In any event this will be 1080p/5.1 (and probably lossless) and the transfer on DISC-HD was 1080i/2.0. Unfortunately I only have a 720p TV, but even then I can see the difference over broadcast, especially on a good BD transfer.

This is off the point but the release date for the Blu-Ray version of "Chicago" is apparently also delayed. It was scheduled for release on January 23rd.

Yeah it was. So why post it here?

The DVD release of this title wasn't reference video quality, so I'm not expecting to be blown away with the HD release. Great title though...

The DISC-HD transfer is pretty impressive, even with the occasional spec and smudge.

I've been wanting to see this for a while and was planning on getting the BD. Does DiscHD run it wiith commercials? If so I believe I'll wait.

Yes, unfortunately they run it with commercials.

I just got an email from Amazon that the US release has been delayed until March 19th.

The DVD release had terrible edge-enhancement; let's hope that doesn't rear its ugly head here.

I can't say that I was "Blown Away" but from what I saw on Discovery channel's HD presentation of it, I was really impressed, it looked excellent. Perhaps on HD-DVD it will be upper tier1

As a wildife & birds photographer, i look forward to this BR release. The first 15 minutes opening sequence took my breath away. I have it saved on my tivo s3 as well as moto DVR. I watch the opening's scene every other week and feel wanting more. Sure hope they got the best quality out of original transfer.

Go wing!

It would be really awesome if they could put the trailer in HD when they release it too. I really liked this movie, and this trailer was one of the best I've seen.

I really hope this comes out... *crosses fingers*
post #25 of 32
It was pulled and now has no release date, but if you have Comcast and want to see it in higher bitrate checkout your OnDemand section. This month it's available for free in HD.

Winged Migration has finally been released on Blu-Ray. I received it yesterday from Amazon. The quality picture and audio are both great. Dobly True HD and very good transfer. I feel it is reference disk quality.

I hadn't heard of this film before. I'm going to see if Netflix has it first. If it's as good as the reports here, I'll be buying a copy.
Be sure to get it in Blu-Ray. It is amazing.

It's a documentary with about 5 lines of voiceover narration. I think you'll get over it.

The birds don't have any dialogue.
