As far as I know, you are right. I always have believed that DPI is only related to printing an image. The two pictures are different, but were they scaled to exactly the same size?

Really enjoyed this thread up to about page 3 when the **** started. Sheesh, lets just get back to the actual screenshots. The thread was going on so nicely too. For those who've taken the trouble to upload and post their pics, I sincerely appreciate it and hope you post even more.

It is easy to skip the text, and just look at the pictures.

This is a screenshot thread.

On to the screenshots:

Panny AE900 projector, calibrated using SpyderTV pro. No enhancement or modifications. File cropped and resized.

Eyes front Harry!

EDIT:

Smaller size of the screenshots gives you the perception of extra detail and sharpness. Especially on screenshots taken from a projector.

if they are real screen captures, what dpi are you using?

ps: heres a tip for those that resize the images and still wish to retain the detail, before resizing set your dpi above 200. you will avoid a lot more compression photo artifacting while still retaining the high res detail in a small picture.

Is that what they teach you in class? Wow, I strongly recommend to change schools immediately!

The dpi setting has nothing to do with quality when you look at the screenshots on a computer monitor. It also has nothing to do with file size.
Change the dpi setting of an image from 72 to 500 in Photoshop. It won't look different unless you print it. And of course the file size won't change either.

Also your critisizing the JPEG format is uncalled for. A JPEG at max quality looks practically identical to an uncompressed image.

both files identical image source file,
one saved 72dpi other saved 200dpi

than both resized to the same image size,
than both equally increased to 2000 pixels width and cropped a portion of the image,
this is an sd dvd pic btw

Ask your teachers to teach you what resampling means. You're not helping anyone with these "tips".

I have to say that some of the pictures posted look like DVD quality, and others look HD. Maybe some of you have the sharpness too low.

The "Ant Bully" HD-DVD finally came in the mail today. I ordered it before Christmas.

G90 CRT projector at 1080p, 9.5' wide screen (Wilsonart Designer White laminate), HD-A1 HD-DVD player:

Those are awesome. I have Ant Bully but haven't opened my HD-DVD addon. What a setup you have there Clarence. If only my Sony 46" RPTV has that quality

Holy Crap Clarence.....I've never seen any shots from a CRT and those were freakin as natural as I've ever seen from animation. Gloriously natural.

Man I am jealous of your setup. Great job putting it together Clarence.

Here are some HD-DVD screenshots that I took for my review of the James Taylor tribute concert (another disc that I pre-ordered back in October which finally arrived last night)...

Clarence,

Having watched Any Bully more than any other HD-DVD (I have a 2.5 year old), I now realize that I need a bigger TV or wall. My wife is going to hate you!

Thanks for sharing.

hey that sony CRT kick serious ass....

Its funny that the picture looks more real life than the person beside the projected picture.. lol

I`m sure you got a much better experience than in local cinema....

damn, f***ing nice....!!! I want one...

while all other HD pictures here look also very nice, they are a joke against this CRT front projection....

But the price for this CRT is also a joke for the normal customer....
I think I have to buy The Ant Bully today....

awesome setup Clarence!

Another thread was asking about the comparison of HD-DVD vs HD cable (link), so I took these last night from HD-DVDs that I also have from my DVR. But until I get the same screenshots from the cable box, I figure I'd add these to the HDDVD screenshot thread.

Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player, Sony VPH-G90 CRT projector, Lumagen HDP for 1080P, 9' wide laminate screen:

I have several more HDDVD titles that I'm going to try to compare. The hard part will be finding the same frame on the HD cable broadcast.

I don't see what the big fuss is about CRT blacks.... oh wait I'm lying those are amazing :P

I get the impression only limited by the LCD monitor I'm viewing the photos on, and it's a nice monitor. What's the rough price of your projection setup, if I can ask, Clarence?
@Clarence... How much do you get paid to be a standin in all of these movies???
G90's are 8-10k

G90's used to go for $20K-$25K new. Mine was much less. They probably decrease 20% each year. 3 years ago they sold for $15K. 2 years ago, $12K. Last year, $10K.

There are a couple of G90s listed in the AVS Marketplace this week... $6K and $8K (with brand new tubes).

My projector has 8500 hours on the original tubes, with plenty more life left in it, as you can tell.

So overall, the cost is comparable to the current 1080P digital projectors. Especially if you include 8000+ hours worth of replacement lamps.

The G90 weighs 242 pounds , but CRT is worth the weight

Yeah... pretty annoying, eh?

It's a silly, old tradition from when I used to have a 12' wide screen (172" diagonal). But it helps depict the scale and emphasizes that this isn't a 42" plasma.

The HD-DVD comparisons to HD cable are now posted in this thread:

Here are some from the Serenity HD-DVD:

Hi guys,
I owe an apology to a few members in this thread,
I did indeed let it get it out of hand and there was no need for me to make a mountain out of an anthill.

once again, for those that I referred to as elitists, please forgive me for my responses in this thread.

this is a screen shot thread and the title has already been changed with a warning, so I have no right to complain.

Cheers!
God bless,
myo

Great screenshots everyone!

Clarence I am amazed by the dimensionality of your screenshots. They have one heck of a 3-D appearance to them; very impressive.

mattalgrand don't forget to include what viewing equipment you're using.

Thanks for posting a bigger image. Some screenshots posted her a bit small to appreciate it (to me).

To others how about cropping and resizing them at least 1027x768 or more or close to it.
