Here is a set of measurements taken on a neighbor's 2009 Panasonic 50X1. The TV was bought about a year ago and at the start of the calibration had 2933 hours on it.
Three runs are shown: The first with the factory default service menu settings. The second with the service menu offsets provided by D-Nice (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post16014003
.) The third after a true calibration. The contrast was adjusted to maintain approximately the same maximum light level for each measurement run. The brightness also was readjusted.
The owner prefers a somewhat dim picture and that is why the maximum light level is about 25 ftL. He watches primarily movies in a completely darkened room using the Cinema mode and Warm color temperature. For watching occasional daytime sporting events he uses Custom mode with a max light level of about 30-33 ftL. Since the X1 has no means to adjust gamma, no attempt was made to take detailed measurements in the Custom mode. The black level, however, was properly adjusted for that mode.
I used the latest version of the AVSHD disk as a source. The measuring meter was my i1 LT profiled to my certified i1 Pro. The constant APL patterns with the larger window were used for the grayscale calibration. His Samsung BD-P2550 BluRay player was used. The calibration was performed between 7:00 and 11:30 PM. With the TV off it was pitch black in his viewing room.
The i1 LT was allowed to stabilize at temperature on the running TV for a full hour before taking any readings. The LT and Pro profile measurements were taken simultaneously using two of my laptops each running with the appropriate HCFR settings applicable to the associated meter. Meter calibrations were performed at the start of the sessions and at regular intervals during the evening.
The somewhat elevated black levels are typical of a 2009 Panasonic plasma with the amount of use that this one had.
No primary color measurements were taken on the final calibrations -- the X1 having no CMS.
The date and time properties of the chc files have been changed due to my removal of personal information and technical data from the 'comments' section of the HCFR reports.
