Where are all of the 20 GB Playstation 3's?

Thread Starter
Because I want one for BluRay, and I can't find anything but the 60GB, which there are TONS of. Is there a shortage, does Sony just not want to sell the cheaper model? Anyone have any hints for finding the 20GB model in stock?
Yeah,
all the ones I'm seeing in the stores are 60's. Sony takes a bigger loss on the 20's. That's probably why they aren't making as many.
Glad I got my 20.

The only stores I've seen them at are Gamestop and EB Games using itrackr.com
I was told at Best Buy that they weren't ordering any of the 20 gigs after the initial shipment, that they would only sell 60 from now on.

can't find any at BB/FS/EB-Games in a 30 mile radius from my home either. The 60 Gigger can be found quite easily, however.

My local Target had a 20gb and a 60gb side by side in the case last week. I purchased my 20gb from Target at the end of November.

Try CC they have both.

I was initially looking for a 20g, but when 19 out of 20 that showed up
on a surprise shipment were 60's I wasn't going to pass up the last one available
... that happened to be a 60.

I just got it Wifi connected to my wireless router on the weekend and I'm downloading all the free stuff I can get my hands on now
(GT HD and Motostorm so far) ,
The web browser is pretty cool too, since I dont have a PC in the living room.
Now I can browse AVS from my sofa (wireless) on the 50" Plasma while my G/F is busy using the PC in the den.

OMG! You have GOT to see the freebie Demo download for Gran Turismo HD!!!

Even if you're not a Gamer, Everybody likes Hot cars ...right?

Get the 60 and fill the hard drive with freebie demos, then load up your favorite jpg's
and you can even rip all your favorite audio CD's to the HDD.
It makes your home entertainment center a hub for a lot of media that you dont have to get up off the couch to access.

I could only find the 20gig on Amazon. Excellent deal. Just ordered a 120gig hard drive for $90.
I got my 20 gig at Target.
I had read on another forum that the 20 gig units had a huge defect/return rates. I assume it was something with the drive as the 60 gigs units were ok.
Just keep checking different places. It shouldn't be too long before you can get it online. When I got mine, it was the only 20GB model they had.

In you really want one, my local BB here in Houston has about 5 on the shelf. PM me and I will be happy to give you their number.

GEAUX SAINTS!

Now that someone has mentioned it, I can't say that I've seen a 20GB at any store that sells Playstation 3's in my area.
the funny thing is when I mentioned the exact same thing, I'm accused of ignoring the existence of 20 Gb PS3!
I just (finally) found a 20gb at Wal-Mart when my wife and I were there to pick up a few other items. She told me to go grab something else and when I came back to find her, she had already bought it.
The first PS3 I saw in a store was a 20gb one but I havn't seen one since. The 60gb consoles are all over the place though.
I picked up a 20 GB PS3 from the Belleville, IL, Walmart this morning; it was the last one left. The local Target had a couple of both, but Best Buy only had the 60 GB (a ton of them).
Walmart and Target are your best bet for the 20GB...I just checked my 2 local Wal-Marts and they both have 20GB PS3's in stock...
I had to go to about 10 different stores last week to find a 20 gig - was the last unit too.
I only found the 60GB versions, so I bought a 60GB one at Target this past Saturday.
yeah best buy had about 8 or so 60gig even though i wanted a 20gig.
Kmart.com gets the 20gb in frequently. I've also seen several at Target recently . Try using ps3finder.com to locate one.

So do you guys think, $100 less, with 40GB less storage, lack of wireless, a bitty trim, and card reader option, 20GB is better buy?
Zoro,

No, the better value is probably the 60gb version.....but I don't need wireless since my HT room is already hardwired, I really don't play a lot of games or download stuff and the memory card slots are worthless to me. If I do want more storage one day I can put in a larger drive. Another point is I actually like the all black case better which is less likely to reflect light compared to the chrome trim.

It all depends on what you intend to use it for. In my case, since it was only purchased for BR playback and I have a router within 6 feet of it, paying the extra $100 didn't make any sense.

YMMV.

If it matters, Sony loses more money on the 20GB model than the 60GB version.

No, you're both wrong. Sony loses more money on the 20GB model.

BTW, I see the word "lose" misspelled as "loose" every freaking day on forums, but I never thought I would actually see it (multiple times) on what looks to be a professionally produced website's headline and story. Maybe at this point we should just give up and let it be an accepted alternate spelling.

Yes that's right.... I believe that was me, when you were saying that PS3's start at $600.
so... you want to extend your accusation to other 20 Gb PS3 searchers? or the accusation is just directed towards me because I can only find the 60 Gb in me area (and that's version I've purchased since it's been THE only version available in my area since the release date?)
