I'm not sure of the amplification details you are looking for, but the Amp is a Denon 2311ci. I've a connection from my PC over toslink.
My areas of impact sounds similar to yours mid-high frequencies. The song where I readily hear the issue is "No Aloha" by the breeders. Right at the beginning of the song, before the other instruments come in, there is a slide guitar, and it stands out there heavily. Listening to my speakers at my engineers house, they sounded a lot better...though I still heard this overtone of sound/noise (I'd emphasis sound over noise here as it was cleaner, that is it didn't interfere with the actual instrument). At my place, with my setup, it kind of tramples the music a bit. I have currently set it up as bi-wired from single outputs on the AMP, using the HTD biwire cable. I'm planning on going back to regular wiring, with jumpers on the speaker posts, just to eliminate that as a possible culprit. I don't have high hopes of that resolving the issue, but simplifying the setup seems like a good first step. I'm considering bringing in a known good set of speakers with good mid-range just to confirm it isn't an issue with my setup outside the speakers. I have level 2 tower and bookshelfs available, but I'd like to also compare to something other than HTD. When I connect a pair of Sennheiser HD558 headphones to the amp, the song comes through very clean. Is that a fair comparison? Does that mean the connections leading up through the amp are unlikely to be the culprit?
Were you able to resolve your issues? What was your culprit?
I'm wondering if I need to get a mic, and start running my own detailed analysis, but I am such a beginner there, not sure where to begin. One thing I was thinking of was to try to see what frequency that 1-2 second clip of "No Aloha" is running at to see the exact range where it seems to struggle.
Does anyone have the specs for the individual drivers in the Level 3 tower? One question
that is hanging over my head is, was that issue with the ribbon tweeter on these just a recent issue over the last year, or is it possible that my system (purchased early 2011) is suffering from the same problem that impacted the HTS $1000 speaker review?Edited by laggerific - 1/6/14 at 10:38am
