Help on Simple Cable Setup?

I've got a Samsung 3251D LCDTV and an older Toshiba RD-XS32 DVD Recorder on one side of a 12' wide room and a Marantz 7001 on the *other* side. There are reasons... don't ask! Cables will cross the room under the floor, in the basement.

The Toshiba has component video connections (and optical audio) but no HDMI. The TV and AV are very new and have it all.

The RF is split at the wall, connected to both the recorder and the TV. Simple cable, no box.

Is this "optimum":

- Component video cable from DVD -> TV (short run)
- Digital audio cable from DVD -> AV (long run)
- Digital audio cable from TV -> AV (long run)
- SVHS from AV -> TV for OSD display (long run)

or would I be better off using HDMI between the TV & AV?

I'm pretty new at this so please be kind!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Either of those would work fine, though I don't know why you need a digital audio cable between the TV and receiver?

Thanks.

Isn't that how you get audio from TV broadcasts to output through the speakers? Or am I even more dumb than I thought?

My fault- I was inferring that you had a cable box, which is not what you said. You are right.
