It's great to see so much interest from all of you guys.
As a Greek guy myself, we were taught this and all the major accomplishments of the Greek civilization in the good old days.
The million plus Persian army number I'd take with a grain of salt, however, I have no trouble believing that the Spartans were outnumbered by multiple times. Those guys were hardcore men bred for battle. Their only focus in life was to kill. It was a very Nietzschean culture, that's why Nietzsche and Hitler idolized them. Problem is, if Hitler was born in Sparta, he would be thrown down Mt. Taygetosl in no time..
No other civilization back then (or ever) was so intently focused on war.
My problem with the movie is that they're mythologizing an ACTUAL historical event no matter if the details are a bit sketchy or overblown.
This battle HAPPENED, this is NOT Lord of the Rings.
If reality is so awesome, why mar it with made up $H|+???
Anyway, I hope some day we will see a decent Ancient Greek HISTORY movie that would make justice to the actual event...
