Panasonic DMP-BD10 - 1.4 firmware... - Page 3

Thanks Much!
Got it!

Vista supports formatting the CD in two ways:

1) Live File System (Default)
2) Mastered

Make sure you pick Mastered. I forgot to look at the formatting options and on the first disk I received the unsupport message.

As soon as I prepared a new disk using Mastered, all went fine.

All is well downunder. I updated to 1.4 without a problem! I just used windows xp drag and drop to copy the file onto the cd writeable drive. Then i right clicked and wrote the file to the CD.

Thats 2 firmware upgrades since i've had the Panny...can't wait for DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD!!!

Same here Alex no probs in upgrading.

Is picture quality like PIONEER BDP-HD1 after this update ? Or maybe better?

Easily as good, if not better...

What you've found so better?

Colors?
Noise?
Detail?

What?

Have you actually tested both on the same system?
Although I do not own the panny is the pq better than the pioneer just at 60hz? I find it hard to believe it is better at 24hz. I know the panny does not do 24 but my display does that is why I am asking.

I have and I prefer the picture on the Panny. Not that there is anything wrong with the Elite. It is a fantastic player. The Panny, in my opinion, puts out a slightly sharper image with richer color. It is also superior at upconverting DVDs.

Panasonic assigns dedicated video processor chip for upconversion and picture quality control, while Sony and Pioneer are doing that process in the Sigma chip. If that video processor chip is not capable of output 24p, firmware update is nothing to do.

The NS chip in the Panny is capable of 24p, so hopefully they will offer this down the road.

Thanks Kris,

Do you think Panasonic will be watching this discussion? There is a lot of interest in obtaining 1080p24 around here.

Alternatively, is there a way to communicate this to Panasonic?

I just went out and bought a Panny from Tweeters today and I noticed mine has 1.3 version right out of the box------Has anyone else seen a 1.3 version on their player?------I have not heard of 1.3. It seems to play perfect so I'm wondering if I should bother with the 1.4?

With the addition of 24P this Panny would definitely have it all, and be King Dog!---Heck, I'm thinking it's the best player right now. I have only had it for one day and I absolutely love this thing!------

Doubtful firmware update can correct this short coming.

Wow!...the next thing you know you'll want us to go back to analog outs!...(how archaic!)...

Want to talk about a player's shortcomings? Try playing a CD on a Pioneer or a Sony!

My new Panny should be here next week. Should I do the firmware updates from this thread or do the setup adjustments on the other thread first?

Wait till you get the unit and see which version it has. Mine came with 1.3, but most arrive with 1.0 0r 1.2. You might get one with 1.4 already installed----- It doesn't matter when you do the settings, you can do them before or after the updates------if you do it before the update, the unit remembers the settings and adds them to the update.

Same here... Getting an firmware update that bumped us up to TrueHD was a real bummer.... Hope Panasonic get there soon

I'm confused. Isn't this a thread about the Panasonic? Why so many comments about the Toshiba?

joshd2012 was bashing the Tosh firmware upgrades for some reason so TomsHD and I were just letting him know we haven't had any problems with ours----is that ok with you?

BTW, I did download and install the 1.4 after all and have no problems whatsoever with my new Panny player----I absolutely love it!------

Panasonic knows how to do firmware updates. Maybe they should give Toshiba some lessons.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Panasonic isn't without its problems when it comes to firmware. The last one before this gave the player CUE issues that they still haven't resolved. So they actually added a problem rather than getting rid of one. So I wouldn't go pointing fingers too much at Toshiba.

I bought my Panny at Tweeter and I noticed it was double clear taped, but it had a factory seal on the box that said, "This package has been inspected in accordance with regulations"---and when I checked to see what firmware was installed, it was 1.3----which I thought was kinda weird. However I updated it to 1.4 and have had a perfect running machine. Maybe this is why I have had no issues?----At any rate, I love my Panny!-----

Panasonic UK have sent me a DMP-BD10 for review, which came to me as v1.0. I upgraded it to v1.4 - and now it has CUE when playing BD movies. I'm sure it didn't before - it was instantly noticeable on the red Fox "WARNING" screen at the beginning of the Fantastic 4 disc.

unlike the DVI and stability issues gained by upgrading the Toshibas.

Weird - I never had any stability problems from upgrading my own HD-A1, that's the first I've heard of it...
