Just got my copy from BB of all places and it looks very damn good. Lot's of pop and detail and the sound despite being only DD+ is outstanding! The supplements are also very good and look very good. This has at least some of the extras that are on the new special edition DVD. Big thumbs up here!

That's all I needed to know. I didn't get the DVD cause I knew this would be out on HD DVD. Now it's time to go buy!

Cannot wait to watch mine. Also have Alien V Predator and Black rain on the way. Reort back in a few hours with a review

For an all time first, my local BBY had every single one of the 1/16 release titles stocked when I went there today. I wasn't going to pay the B&M premium, but most likely I'll just end up renting this anyways. Not sure if I can get up the interest to make a blind buy of a movie about cowboys kissin'.

Just because Barak Obama said that, doesn't mean it's gonna happen. Politicians say anything they think their people want to hear.

THE BEARS ARE GOING DOWN...HARD!
Speaking of hard this movie is not about that. It is a movie about art imitating life!

I wonder if Scary Movie 4 will come out on HD. That Brokeback Mountain scene was a killer.

It has been out since the 19th of December. Enjoy!

Even if it does have some gay scenes, I would happily endure that to see some naked Anne Hathaway, come on guys get with it.

Before I watched BM I was sure I'd never want to own it but it's just a movie that screams for HD. The cinematography is impressive and the acting is equally something to behold.

I'll gladly have the balls to add this to my collection. No butts about it.

Yeah, this movie in HD. You may not know that last year it was nominated in the Best Cinematography category (it lost to Memoirs of a Geisha). That alone justifies an HD release.

Not to mention it won 3 Oscars (best director, best adapted screenplay, best music), 4 BAFTA awards, 4 Golden Globes, the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival...

Not to mention that if you systematically avoid any gay-themed films you are depriving yourself of some truly great modern movies such as

Far from Heaven
My Own Private Idaho
Law of Desire
Maurice
The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
The Birdcage (French original and remake)
Kiss of the Spider Woman

...and even Shark Tale

And I don't think it deserved Best Picture. It's a great film, but not in the league of Academy Awards Best Pictures.

But I do think Heath Ledger was robbed in not getting Best Actor. He had his part down pat. I read several complaints about his charator's accent / "mumbling", making it difficult to understand some of his lines. I worked in Wyoming in my youth, and Ledger had that "man of few words" role dead-on.

I'll be interested in seeing more reviews of the HD DVD before deciding to upgrade my DVD. The mountain scenery was pretty breath taking just upconverted.

i think i heard his accent in some of his lines.... i think that messed it up for him

I got the BBM Collector's Ed on HD DVD last night. It is pretty much a carry over of the original release except for 2 (15 min each) featurettes that are new. One on the Music of the film and the 2nd on the Success of the film with interviews by Shamus, Peter Bart from Daily Variety and a few others. It is disappointing that it did not get a better upgrade. Not even audio commentary by Ang, Diana, Larry etc. I'm still happy have the film in Hi Def though, but it was a missed opportunity and lazy of Universal to not do more.

The HD DVD is reference quality and is as stunning as would be expected.

I agree with that. Hoffman has done a lot of good work in many films, but I thought Ledger was far better in this film than PSH in Capote.
