Seek help from Custom Timing Experts! How to synch PC to VGA on Pio Elite HDTV??

Guys I know this is not the perfect forum, but I've tried the others without much success. I'm trying to tap the brain power and experience of those who live in the wacky world of Analog HD Refresh Rates, custom timings and odd ball resolutions!

OK, here the deal. I own a 2001 Pio Elite RPTV 710HD tv. In it's prime this was considered the gold standard for RPTV with fourjda like line doubling / scaling capability. It has both VGA and Component Inputs. The set will NOT do either 720p or 1080p, but will display 480p and 1080i. Additionally others have successfully used ATI Video Cards and PowerStrip to establish custom timings to do vaious desktop resolutions and scan rates including some success with both 540P and 1080i.

The problem is that most folks who were savvy with this setup have long since moved on to more modern equipment. Hence my hope that someone here can help!..

Here's my problem. I have a brand new HTPC with a 7950gt nVidia video card using the new nVidia PureVideo drivers. These drivers allow for significant tuning of custom timings, but I've failed in my attempts to figure out how to configure this setup to synch with my VGA input. The tech specs on my Pioneer VGA input describe this as a 30mhz refresh rate 15pin Sub D input device.

Is there anyone out there who might be able to walk a neophyte through a process like this to understand how best to configure my VGA output to play nice with my Pioneer?

BTW, for those that are curious, I want this to work for two reasons. First, I want to preserve my Component Inputs for user with a Dish Network Set Top Box. Second, I want the benefit of custom timings so I can squeak out every last ounce of HD Display capability I have left in my TV.

All sogo's are MUCH appreciated!!!

A good place to start would be to tell us what you have tried so far. I would expect it to work at minimum at 640x480 and most likely at 960x540 @60Hz. You can also read through this thread:

I'm traveling this week, but when I'm back home on Saturday I'll document everything I've tried and post back here. I tried all of the low resolutions just to insure I could make some sort of connection, but these failed. I'll provide details in my next post.

thx!
