where do you find the date these firmware upgrades were released on lg's website?

It's in the number. For example:

disc_update_080624a_kernel_0203a.zip

The '080624', translate to June 24, 2008.

The first 2 numbers are the year. The next 2 are the month. And the last 2 are the day.

Just another couple of data points:

"For Your Eyes Only" won't ever get to the main menu with the LG (I forget which firmware but I haven't updated this since this past Summer). I borrowed one of the new Sony SDP-550s to try out and we were able to play the movie; so it looks like my LG could use a new firmware update.

Also, with the Sony, I was able to play uncompressed PCM and DTS HD Master audio tracks at more "boisterous" levels than when playing the same tracks with the LG using the player's 5.1 analog audio outputs. This suggests to me the amp reset issues I have been having may have had more to do with the LG decoding/DACs than the amp/speaker combo . At least I'll have a little more confidence the next Blu-ray player (Pioneer Elite/Denon/marantz??) I buy will not display the same audio issues I've had with the LG.

I got the Band of Brothers Blu-Ray set and discs 2-5 tell me that the disc won't play because the region code of the player is not compatible. Discs 1 & 6 play fine, but 2-5 do not. It also looks like the X-Files movie won't play, either. This is turning out to be a real piece of crap machine.

I went to Best Buy and found a Panasonic DMP-BD30 Blu-Ray player for $140. I'm getting rid of the BH100 and I'll either sell by HD-DVD's and replace them with Blu-Ray's or spend $50 on a HD-DVD player. It's ridiculous that there hasn't been a new firmware in months and when you call LG, they treat you like you're an idiot!

Unfortunatly this is the biggest issue (achilles heel) with Blu-Ray, It pays to go with A Blu-Ray player manufacturer that releases constant firmware updates like Panasonic And Sony's PS3 and unlike Samsung who are slow to release firmware updates..

It is to do with the 128 bit incription on the Blu-Ray disk, Blu-Ray's incription key can change (Movie to Movie) unlike HD-DVD's 128 bit fixed incription key...
Movie Company's like Disney and Warner Bros are the two main offenders constantly changing the 128 bit incription Key on there NEW Release BlockBuster thus if the Blu-Ray Players firmware is not constantly revised to match the incription on the Disney Blu-Ray movie it will not play/work....

Actually HD DVDs encryption keys changed too. The issues we are having now have to do with BD+ which is different.

I have now changed my machine for a Sony BDP 550 player, so my Multi-region LG BH100 is currently available for sale in the Southampton Branch of CEX for £345.00 if anyone is looking to buy one.

I am running into the same issue with band of brothers, does anyone have a possible solution? Disc1 plays fine but then the others say my dvd player is not setup to play these region discs...ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I don't really understand the cash/exchange part of your ad. But to me, £345.00 sounds a bit high for a used BH100 that everyone knows won't play many of the newer BDs.

CEX is a UK chain store & on-line site for people who want to buy / sell used hardware & software.

I wanted to sell my BH100 without the hassle of putting it on ebay, so the store offered me £250.00 of store credit for the unit (instead of £172 cash).

They now own it, and have put it up for sale at £345.00, which may be a little steep, but it is still a great player, and I'm sure a firmware update will be released eventually.

I simply posted the link, for anyone wanting to get there hands on a good multi-region BD & HD-DVD machine, for information only, as I no longer have any connection with it.

Really? When? It's been 6 months since the last update, and at this moment, there is no indication from LG that there will another one.

I just spoke to LG, they say there is a new update that is not on their website, you must call them to get it. They say that it resolves the issues with the new movies. Now I don't know if they are just blowing smoke or what, but I will keep you posted after I receive mine and do the update. But, I am not going to hold my breath..........!

If you get it, i can host in on my mac.com space for all to download. send me the ISO compressed file if you get the DVD.

Just called LG myself to get the latest for the BH200 and asked for the BH100 updateas well. Only I forgot to ask for the BH100 date. ops: we'll see what I end up getting.

Good idea nashou66. I went ahead and did the same. Only, I asked for the BH100 firmware update.

I asked the guy why the update wasn't posted. He said that too many customers have had problems d/l and getting it to work that way. Reading between the lines, I'm guessing too many people were mucking up their players doing it wrong, and then having to send the units back to LG.

I knew that would happen eventually, I don't understand why these large companies would not make the process of updating firmware non volatile,
so it can not ruin the player. you'd think they have much less liability that way.

I can't think of any firmware-upgradeable electronic product that provides a nonvolatile means of updating the firmware.

Actually Gigabyte makes computer motherboards that have a secondary (backup) bios chip. Unlike most motherboards, if you flash the bios and something goes wrong you can press something when booting up the computer which allows you to boot off the secondary bios. Then you can reapply the update to the primary bios. Any other motherboard would be bricked.

I don't know why more CE manufacturers don't do something like this. It would increase costs but I doubt it would be by much. They should at least offer it on the higher end blu-ray players.

That's an excellent feature and hopefully one that catches on across the rest of the CEMs and products.

so has anyone installed this firmware update?
i called and asked for it, and the csr asked me what movie i was having trouble playing. i said i wasn't having an issue, i just wanted to keep my player up to date with firmware. she said she could only send out the updates with a problem movie title attached to the request. it made it sound like there are different firmware updates depending on the movie. ????

It sounds more to me like an effort to limit damage control (and/or expense on their part to send out discs) for those who might accidentally brick their players during the upgrade. They're limiting it to those only having problems. Lame but thems the breaks. It will surely be upgraded to the LG site in due time, though.

Huh... the guy I talked to didn't ask me anything about particular movies. He just took my information and said they would get it sent out.

FYI: the current discs I have that won't play are - Firefly: Disc 3, and Band of Brothers: All discs except Disc 1.

those lying pieces of sh**! I just got the update, and it is the same one from june....I am on the phone right now blessing these a**holes out.

The new firmware is posted on the LG website if you want to just download it.

Sorry, I thought I was on the BH200 thread, the BH200 software is posted on the LG site, the BH100 update is not ready yet.

Okay. Add the BD of 'Serenity' to the list of discs that won't play.
