A2/XA2 firmware upgrade 1.2/1.3 [ remove disc first!] - Page 2

Question- if my A2 is working perfect so far, should I update anyway? With my luck, I'll update and them HDMI-DVI will stop working for me, I'll get black crush, and un-synced audio.

I'm scared.

Much better to know than to press down-down-down-down-OK-down-down-down-down-down-OK-down-OK-OK-OK-right-OK the entire night though!

i think you can save yourself some keystrokes and time by converting your "macro" to:

up-OK-up-OK-down-OK-OK-OK-right-OK

I'm scared.

I feel the same...so far my A2 has been flawless, hdmi, audio, PQ all work fine. I might wait to see what others say.

Is Toshiba supposed to send us the update disc if we sent in the pink card? How long does this normally take? I have had no problems with the A2 except for out of sync audio on Mutiny on the Bounty, which seems to be a disc problem.

yes, but using my xa1 experience, the disc doesn't arrive for at least a couple of weeks after it is first available for download (either directly with the player or via somone posting the iso for manual download/burn)...i get the discs for "archive/recovery" purposes but have always performed the upgrade directly with the player.

will be interesting to see if the gen 2 machines upgrade quicker than the gen 1 players...

Strange that they have already released 1.2 for the E1, I wonder if the firmware version numbers are out of step.

Do we have an official list of changes?

I'm scared.

I'm going with the "if it 'aint broke, don't fix it" approach. Will get the disk from Toshiba and hold if needed later. Right now everything is working perfectly for me.

As long as we are all waiting for this to be posted ... anyone here found a downloadable user manual?

I'm scared.

I know what you mean-
something was drastically fixed when it came time to the A2 as far as DVI, HDMI handshake issues..........no more HDMI ERROR and life has been good ever since........I too am scared that they might revert back to something that was obviously incompatible.......

When you select Update from the Maintenance menu, it'll tell you the version number - 1.0/ and then some other text I forgot after the slash. But I was current, and basically told me as such. At least I know I'm connected correctly.

Come on Jack. Just get out the big drill and go through the lath in that old house to route wired ethernet to your player. And then you will be ready for all those new network downloadable enhancements to HD DVDs that are coming out later this year. No memorization will be necessary then.

What exactly is this update going to provide?
I was wondering the same thing....
I hope it fixes the LFE level output issue via analog/HDMI

I never received any disc after sending in the card for my XA1 over 3 months ago.
I had to download the update over the net.
I'll bet the A1 and XA1 will no longer be updated. They provided 3 updates and that is quite a bit.
i think they will continue to provide at least one or two more updates to the gen 1 but who knows, that's jmo.

still no update as of 7am est
