Whats the cheapest Bluray player available that is 1080p/24 capable right now? Right now, not with a firmware upgrade.

I saw the Phillips Blu-Ray player was $549.99 on Amazon.com if you are looking for a stand alone player since the PS3 doesn't seem to exist at any stores. lol

Holy xxxx, that must be your 10 million size innercity BB store I can bet you you'll get mugged if you dont cover it well in the parking lot.

The Sony is no baloney. The Sony Blu Ray BDP-S1 processes 24fps and does a fine job of 1080P upconversion with SDDVD. Try looking at it with an XBR2 and you'll be impressed. I purchased a new BDP-S1 from EBAY for $700.00 and that price should be dropping steadily with the second generation units on their way to the stores.

Anyone have any idea when/if the PS3 will support 1080p/24?

Also anyone know if the PS3 supports (or ever will support) 480i over HDMI for DVD playback?

Sorry for the derailment...

I'm not sure about the 24FPS but it does support 1080P via HDMI. The lowest res I ever try with HDMI is 720P not sure about 480i though.

The Sony at the affordable price of $999.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and got the PS3 20GB. They said they were not allowed to sell the 60GB yet. This implied to me that they have a bunch but were not selling them yet. Maybe a promotion is planned.

That is pretty lame. I walked into a Best Buy near my girlfriend's in Modesto, CA and walked out with a 60GB just a few days ago. They had no 20GB ones in stock. Now, in the Bay area I have yet to find a PS3 or Wii.

Which one holds this title today?

The Sony BDP-S300 and the Sony PS3 are tied at $499. Both offer 1080p24 output today.

If the $499 version of the PS3 is no longer available, then the BDP-S300 holds the crown.

The $499 is discontinued, but some people still carry them. I got one recently from GameStop online.

You can get the BDP-S300 for $449 new. I think this makes it the cheapest BD player at the moment. If the rumored price reduction of the PS3 actually happens, this may change.
