I'll take that over encoding in a heartbeat.
You know how I buy DVDs of recent theatrical releases? I wait the few months it takes for them to go on sale for 45-50% off at Deep Discount, or pick them up for $5.99 at a used CD store. Chances are any new movie I want on DVD, is one I just saw in a theater four months earlier, so I don't even want to see it again right away.
New movies are like new cars, they're worth a quarter of their list the minute you check-out; so why pay that for them? I'll leave that to the Joneses.
I do however pre-order the oddball, vintage, and obscure titles from small labels and importers. A habit I picked up from my laserdisc days, when a lack of guaranteed sale could mean cancellations.
