Audio/Video streamer with RS232 or Ethernet control?

Is there an HD AV streamer that is fully controllable via serial or network connections? All the way down to being able to tell it to open a specific file on the network, or open a particular internet radio URL?

Thanks

Xbox running XBMC certainly is. I beleive the Roku and Slim devices players also have a web API....

Xbox is still SD though, right? And Roku and Slim are audio only. . .

I have a feeling the only thing that could do it right now would be a PC (which is what Xbox really is).

Thanks

Sorry missed the HD part.. yes it seems HD streamers are all lacking something and MCE PC has the complexity and cost issue. no perfect solution yet...
