You may want to also consider Sprint before you sign up for another two years. They too offer the 4S, the monthly cost is less than Verizon for the same number of minutes and their data plans and texting are unlimited. No caps.

I've been with Sprint for 10 years and generally it has been a good vendor (and, as a rule, I'm not a big fan of phone companies). I just got a new Android phone a couple of weeks ago, the Motorola Photon, and I'm very impressed so far. Worth checking out.

One reason I'm going VZ is my parents and girlfriend both have VZ and want me to join them there, so calls to me won't go against their monthly minutes.

That, and all the reviews say VZ's 4G just slaughters everybody else.

Thanks!

I'll go on record to say that my prior experience with Spring is that they are just as bad (evil) as AT&T. I can't speak for VZ since I just switched to them, but so far my service has been completely reliable and trouble free. It is more expensive, but if it helps my life rather than hindering it, I find that acceptable.

They are all evil. It is just a matter of time before you find out. Just like the cable/sat providers.

Yes, but there are degrees of evil: like D* is less evil than Charter. For example, if VZ is D* to AT&T/Sprint's Charter, I'll take it.

You must mean their LTE implementation, which isnt near complete yet and is a bit spotty. Sure, LTE beats the pants off everything else, where you can get it. However, their 3G suffers considerably both speed and function-wise (no simultaneous voice and data). The iPhone 4S is crippled on their network and you can't take advantage of the "3G+" speeds that are available on some other networks, including AT&T.

If you are not a big data user you might want to look at Page Plus http://www.pagepluscellular.com/default.aspx which is a MVNO that uses Verizon towers. Here is the forum for a dealer that I have found very helpful http://www.kittyforums.net/forum.php . More use BYOD than any of the phones they offer. My own is a Droid 2 which I purchased from a seller on Ebay.

I am in Centralia, IL and AT&T still only offers 2G service here which takes them out of consideration for me. I am in the process of also trying out T-Mobile which started offering 3G service here.

My understanding from reading things on the net and confirming with a friend that has one is that the Thunderbolt is the one Verizon phone that will do simultaneous voice and data in 3G areas.

The only way that would be possible is if the Thunderbolt used VoIP and didn't use the cell. The drawback of the VZ version of mobile is that the modem only works for data or voice, but not both at the same time.

Welcome to the local Cellular Info and Reception Forum

There is no such thing as a 4G iPhone. LTE, WiMAx, and other 4G schemes have no bearing with the 4S. It's all 3G speeds with any carrier. So don't let that be the deal maker or breaker. Your primary concern should be signal strength at your home or wherever you spend most of your time on the phone. I don't know about the other carriers, but the Sprint iPhone plan allows for unlimited free calling to/from ANY wireless provider. Whether or not this applies to the person on the other end depends upon their plan.

AT&T doesn't serve up data at full 3G+ (HSDPA) speed anyway. Since switching from AT&T to VZ, I have not noticed any slowdown. In fact, I get data in all the places where my AT&T data/voice service disappeared consistently. So in the grand scheme of things, VZ data outperforms AT&T data.

I knew I had seen at least one description of how the Thunderbolt does both at the same time on 3G and I finally found one = http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...t#post14576153 . If that link works, it is at post #36.

Anyone in StL hire someone to snake cables for surround sound? I'm looking to install rear speakers and would like to run cables down to the basement and back up to the speakers. Also, if possible I'd consider moving my A/V Receiver to the basement and just run HDMI to the TV. I'm not sure this a job I want to tackle myself. But, I really don't know who does work like this.

Any thoughts?

Try The Sound Room.

I actually talked to them last year. The price was pretty high and they would not patch any drywall holes. I think some Drywall holes are invetible for house. I was hoping to find someone who would do the complete solution.

OK -- this idea might be too clever by half, but I wonder if you might find some former Ultimate Electronics installers via LinkedIn. There is a UE group on LinkedIn, so it might be worth trawling through and seeing if you can't find someone who can point you in the right direction.

Well, the question of whether I'd get an ETF fee from AT&T has just been rendered moot.

My phone just died this morning.

And I'm not about to get it fixed when I'm leaving AT&T altogether in 3 weeks. May as well just pay the ETF instead.

Was going to get a Samsung Stratosphere because I liked the slide-out keyboard (and it's only $49), but the slide-out keyboard is exactly what's killing my current Samsung Impression... every time I slide out the keyboard the whole phone shuts down.

So Droid Bionic or Charge, here I come....

Not completely true. Yes, the iPhone 4S is not 4G, however it does take advantage of the faster AT&T 3G+ service where available. AT&T was much criticized for taking this incremental step towards 4G service while Verizon skipped straight to LTE, but it does exist and the new iPhone can use it.

I can't seem to "Go Advanced" from the "Quick Reply" box but get a V Bulletin message instead that says "Your submission could not be processed because the token has expired.

Please push the back button and reload the previous window."

When I do so and try to go from there I get the same thing again. So I did this by quoting the message above and the backing out what it said!!

Now to the point of my trying to post in the first place!

Are any of the rest of you having trouble with Channel 5 cutting in and out this morning (Sat., Nov. 5, 2011)? Now 4 just did a bit of it but nothing like what 5 is doing! The worst of it is that I depend on closed captioning and every time it goes out and comes back the popup of which station etc. cuts the captioning for a noticeable amount of time (even though the picture is there). This is using an antenna that is around 40' at the top in Centralia, Il.

Thanks, I didn't realize that about the thunderbolt. I haven't really needed to talk and surf at the same time, but my usage may not be the norm.

I've been having issues for a week now. At the moment I'm having issues with 60 minutes.

Channel 5-1 had no problems with Meet the Press this morning.

I know your phone is broke and you might not want to wait a week, but VZ has 3 phones coming out this month that are better than the bionic or charge: RAZR (coming out this Friday), Rezound (next week I think), Galaxy Nexus (either the 17th or 25thish).
Those new phones coming out are probably why I got my Bionic for about $70 less than its going price a week earlier. Man, this thing is sooooo much nicer than my old Samsung Impression.

Anybody else having trouble with TVGOS from KMOV? I'm a Charter user and it's been working well up until about a month ago. Wondering if there's a known problem or whether I screwed up my setup when I added an OTA antenna. Going through the setup menus on my old Mitsu DLP hasn't gotten me anywhere.
Thanks!
I haven't got the TV Guide on my Toshiba since analog over the air stopped broadcasting. My brother has Charter and has a couple of Sony DVR that stopped getting the Tv Guide from Charter.

According to this uplink report, evidently DISH appears to be getting ready to carry KNLC-24 in HD:
http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.ph...26#post2897226

AND it's "sister" station KNLJ-25 HD, in Jeff City:
http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.ph...20#post2901320

So I guess my obvious question (to me anyway) is...
Asside from DISH wasting HD bandwidth...are EITHER of these stations, (but particularly KNLC-24) actually broadcasting AN HD signal???

And...what IN the world would either of these stations even have for HD "sources" - an HD feed of EWTN???

I've seen their SD feed over satellite - & since obviously their OTA signal ain't getting too far up into IL & I can't see it myself...I just can't imagine how either station is doing this.

I suppose these uplink reports could be wrong...but thought I'd ask you guys here at the "source"...
I've never once seen KNLC broadcast anything other than (badly) upconverted SD.
currently 4:3 standard def on Larry's station.

I was thinking the same thing. What's the point? I thought bandwidth was a precious resource. Why waste an HD transponder?????
