Highlighted Comcast because the question is....Is it Comcast or the STB? Maybe Charter has enabled functionality. But I doubt it! This is why I cringed when I heard reports of Charters release of the 3416 on the verge of the 4.1 update Moxi release that will in fact enable external HDD storage. That is if Charter ever releases it!!!!!!!
BTW....The firewire should be activated. IMHO, archiving this route is a pain and
ONLY allows for nonencrypted programs.
Thanks for the response, DLSDO.
Believe me, I have read through that forum from front to back, and back to the front again. Unfortunately the Comcast people are not much help. To begin with, they are all on different software and firmware releases. Charter (surprisingly) has held off pushing the most recent firmware, which has bugs that kills the HDMI connection and screws with some of the functionality. The software bug has had a habit of reporting a 100% full drive when there is only 15% or less on there. So that already puts us on different pages. It's also known that Comcast released all of their boxes with the USB and SATA locked down. That (supposedly) is not the case with Charter. The tech specifically told me that the Firewire AND USB 2.0 ports were active, and said that you could hook up a personal external hard drive to expand your capacity. That of course does not make it so, but until I can prove him wrong I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. :-P
Also, I agree with you that this is a poor choice for archiving shows. However, I'm not looking to archive shows, I could do that with the firewire and my laptop. I'm looking to expand the storage capacity. ;-)
