Hello all, new AS-EQ1 owner here (well new to me anyway)
My setup: Dedicated and treated theater, floor to ceiling traps up front and ceiling traps on the front back walls. I have SVS PC13-Ultra cylinder sub behind my AT screen and pushed as close to the center channel speaker shelf as possible.
History: I am using an older Pioneer Elite 49txi AVR with the MCACC automated setup. Before, the AE-EQ1 I had the sup gain level at about 11:00 and during movie watching a comfortable level on the AVR was between -16 and -12. This level produced sound from the system that was clear, loud and right. The subwoofer would pound out deep bass and there was no doubt that the thing was working but not over whelming.
So, installed the AE-EQ1 and tried to follow the instructions. Because I recently installed carpet and seating, I reran the MCACC setup on the Pioneer first. Then I started up the laptop and with all the mics and patch through connected I went to the level match screen. To get the SAT to 75 the mast volume needed to be set at -5. Test tone sent to the sub from the AE-EQ1 and I had to turn the sub gain knob down to the 9:00 position to have it read 0dB on the laptop. Ran the setup and moved the microphone to 14 different locations to measure. Saved the filters and exited. Fired up Iron Man 3 (just grabbed one) and forwarded to the scene where his house it being destroyed. Voice dialog told me the AVR should only be at -14 or it was tooooo loud. NO BASS to speak of. It's there but barely. Every explosion was met with extreme disappointment. Where is the room shaking bass, I asked????
Now having read through the bulk of this long thread, I have printed off a few instructions that members posted and will try this again. I did notice that my AVR, after MCACC setup, listed my mains at LARGE and I was always told to change them back to SMALL, so I did this prior to AE-EQ1 measurement and that I had inserted the SAT lead to the left Satelite input on the back of the AVR, I guess that might not be on the correct input so I will be looking to change that.
Oh and the EQ1 said distance at 36.3ft and trim level of .6. My trim level was already close to that in MCACC but the distance was 22ft, so I changed that in the AVR.
Kinda frustrating so far......
Any obvious ideas before I attempt round two tonight???
