Boston, MA - Comcast - Page 182

That's pretty good. Local MLS games don't get that much of good coverage here. I'm not sure of WLVI upgrades the picture of if it really is in hd.

I thought sentana for awhile was in free to air to a point then became a pay channel.

Please speak up if your town has not gotten the conversion notice (through January) and it's not among the 12 I just listed. Thanks!

Randolph, which will probably happen at the same time Braintree and Quincy happen/

i hope Fall river is on the Feb '10 conversion list or at least a one channel update when TWC releases the HD star to comcast by the end of the year.

Ok - so I am confused? The NFL beat Comcast in the lawsuit. I thought it was now free.

Instead, Comcast is putting NFL in its preferred pack? Which is twice as much as the sports pack?

Wow. NFL goes from $8 a month to $16. What a deal!

So glad I dumped these clowns.
No one "beat" anyone. They came to a reasonable agreement. The price arrived at was $0.40-$0.45 per subscriber (instead of the outrageous $0.70 per subscriber that NFL wanted) and the channel gets put onto a higher tier of service, so the average customer can choose whether to pay for it or not, instead of most customers being forced to.

They way the media sold it was that NFL is now in the regular cable pack.

But the reality is Comcast gets a cut in rate, and charges double to the consumer. What am I missing???
You must have missed the news of this entirely, because that is not how it was sold by the media, nor is it an accurate description of what is actually the case.

I'm taking it that you don't have Digital Classic! FWIW, Fios includes it with it's regular HD package.

Yeah, it sucks, I'm in a similar position. I have digital starter with the HD package. I guess I have to buy the sports entertainment package. I hate the $1.99 you have to pay everytime you add or remove a package, especially when you didn't realize you have to pay it if you don't want to be charged after a 6 month promo ends.

I have DISH, but was trying to access this at the in-laws. Most of these channels (NFL, ESPNEWS,) I get as part of basic.

Aug. 1, the NFL Network will be carried throughout Comcast's service areas on a programming package called Digital Classic, which has around 10 million subscribers.

I guess I don't get it. It isn't part of digital classic, it is part of digital preferred I am told.

Digital classic and digital preffered are now the same tier.
The tier NFL Network is not part of is Digital Starter.

What may make it easier are the channels that are not:

Local broadcast channels
PEG channels
HSN
QVC
NECN

EVERYONE else basically is going digital only.

hey All,

i know its only August but is there any new hints on when the February cities list will be available?

thanks again

Little suprised that HSN and QVC are on the remain on the analog list. Suspect that 2 to 27 and 95 to99 will be the analog channels left. First 270 MHz ,270-866 for Digital TV, Internet and Digital Voice Phone service.

Actually no suprise at all. HSN and QVC PAY Comcast to be carried.

Does this imply mandatory cable box per TV? Even if your TV can has QAM tuner which can do un-encrypted channels? What about subscribers which has have grandfathered analog service?

I have couple of digital ready TV with QAM tuner in the house. I am able to receive many of the enhanced basic channels in digital format and all of the local broadcast in HD. I am being "encouraged" to move to Digital Starter package but I am afraid that I will lose

- analog signal on my analog-only TVs
- ability to tune to digital and local HD on digital-ready TVs
- rent a box per TV

Would this happen come next year?

- Vikas
You should end up being able to use your QAM tuner for local broadcast channels, at least.

I don't believe there is any such thing as "grandfathered" analog service for cable networks, and I also believe folks who have "grandfathered" analog service for local broadcast channels sometimes don't understand what it means: It means you can continue to receive that service for as long as they offer it. New customer cannot order that level of service. However, they may discontinue it at any time, and likely eventually will. The grandfathering is not, in any way, a promise that the service will be available to you for any period of time.

The Beverly/Danvers area just got their letters today with a February transition date.
There are no clear QAM non-local HD channels being picked up by my TV. I presume that does not indicate problem with my TV.
Correct. I haven't checked recently, but last time I did check (about a year ago) no digital expanded basic cable channels were provided in the clear, here.

I would suspect something is not set right with your tv. You should get about 20 clear QAM channels. I also noticed recently when doing a rescan (here in Chelmsford) that the 4:3 versions of each channel are now in clear QAM with a digital channel number like 268 (channel 68) etc. I wonder if this is getting us ready for DTA deployment.

Does anyone know when Southeast New Hampshire will see the digital migration?

In a round-about way I think he was saying he gets local HD channels but not any other ones in HD which would be correct. Only the SD Expanded Basic channels are broadcast in the clear, no extra HD channels that I'm aware of.
