I did a rescan and only the OTA channels plus a few select non-OTA digital channels are available. QVC-HD is the lone cable HD channel which is not suprising since I'm sure QVC wants as many "heads" viewing as possible.

It depends on if Comcast offers me a package when I call them. My $129 triple play is expiring next month. I have already been switching my emails over to my gmail account in preparation.

Cambridge, too, has or is being changed as we speak. Scanning at the moment but it looks like I'm only getting the stuff I'm supposed to be getting like the local stuff in HD, and a few other local thingies that I never watch. Good! Now maybe I'll be able to get something done!!! Scan done - about 50 channels which includes 11 junk like qvc, and 6 cctv type.

WGN America says it's available on Comcast

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WGN_America

one of the reasons i want the channel badly is to watch WWE Superstars on Thursday nights.

I also found these tidbits very intriguing

(although WGN is still not available in most New England cable services).

Quote:

WGN America airs all Cubs and White Sox baseball games televised on WGN-TV's local Chicago feed, as well as a select amount of Bulls basketball games. Due to NBA broadcast rights restrictions, most Bulls games contracted to air on WGN-TV are seen in the Chicago area only; WGN America airs movies and other syndicated programming instead.

Point is that is no longer an advantage using Comcast. I'm sure many will feel this way when they take it away from them. If I was Comcast, I would have encrypted from the beginning of the digital migration so subs would not feel they were losing something they were getting as part of the transition only to see it disappear after a month or so. Leaves a bad taste.

This is an area i would have done. Comcast could have A digital starter legacy. No box required Use the QAM tuner.
Of course that was sort of the original intent of cable cards. Had all new sets been required to accept them, things would be different.

There were technical reasons why they couldn't encrypt from the start. I'm sure Comcast would've preferred to have remained encrypted on digital expanded basic rather than unencrypt temporarily for the DTA deployments but they weighed the risks (delay the digital migrations for a year, meaning those systems done last year would've only started getting done now... and those getting done now would be next year) vs the rewards (getting it done sooner and offering more HD content and higher internet speeds).

And regardless of advantage of Comcast vs Fios... I've heard good and bad about both and I know folks that work in Engineering in both companies. If you are an unhappy Comcast subscriber the grass is going to look greener over at your neighbor's house with Fios. Doesn't mean it'll make you happy. Some people stay with Fios and are happy, others go back to Comcast. Neither Comcast nor Fios can make everyone happy, they just need to try to make the majority of people happy and have more happy people than their competitor.

Now if we could watch HD TV over wireless on an iPad I might have to consider getting my first Apple device ever.

If I install a Digital Transport Adapter (DC50X) in line with the cable in of an ATSC/QAM-capable TV will it block the HD signal now coming through on the cable? In other words, can I then tune Extended Basic using the DTA on TV channel 3 and still be able to use the TV tuner to pick up 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, etc? Thanks.

no, you would need to split the cable and then recombine with a switch. I think comcast offers this if you call them. Not a great solution.

For you sports nuts:

WZMY will be launching Universal Sports on 50.2 and channel 288 on Comcast in June.

i know they aren't related at all - already have the first wave of HD and the next is coming on 5/26 with no A28. But it seems most got A28 *around* the time the new HD transition happened in each one of the areas noted on the map Gt1racer posted.

I have no issues with a few bugs if I can get the myDVR service going. Scheduling over the web or with my iphone is ideal.

South Shore was getting all the new Comcast goodies first for awhile but we were last with this rollout (not counting former Adelphia areas).

I just did mine now and it said "Thank you. myDVR Manager will be available to use at Comcast.net TV Listings after it syncs with your DVR. Please allow up to 24 hours to complete."

Can't wait to check it tomorrow. Anyone else already do a complete sync?

Mine is synced and functional. I was able to record a program this morning.

Yup. I actually just tested it now, while it is syncing, and it recorded fine. Awesome!

Of course, as a matter of law, there is effective competition for advanced subscription television services throughout the United States, but with regard to basic service the criteria are more stringent, so the matter must be considered on a town-by-town basis. A number of towns in our local area now have reached the more stringent threshold applicable to essential services. This order is just the latest of them, and notable to me only because it covers a number of communities (while most of the orders I've seen so far cover just one community, such as the Braintree order that was released by the FCC on the same day). Basic cable rates are now no longer regulated in those communities, including Bedford and Wilmington.

Ken,

Can you give a quick tutorial? I've got it working through my iPhone app (only 2 of my 3 DVRs though), but I can't find it a Comcast.net. Can you point me in the direction?

We got the MyDVR thing working here in Tewksbury. Works w/ my ipod touch app and online. It said it needed 30 min. ahead of time to record a program, however my dvr started to record the program right away.

Now if only Comcast could produce more detailed listings so I know who is on what show and if it is new or not.
I'd like to be able to see what shows are currently saved on my dvr and be able to delete them remotely too. That would be nice.
