Boston, MA - Comcast - Page 266

Somebody in Providence is on the verge of having an HD newscast! It took until near the middle of 2011? *Slow clap*...

Still kind of sad considering that they were one of the two biggest TV markets without any kind of HD news. And that there were dozens and dozens of smaller markets that were in HD long before...

Eh, I still wouldn't watch. Providence can bite me. They've put some of us Bristol County residents who want Massachusetts news/Boston TV through enough anyway...

(More official than AVS Forum, that is)

Ken,

Where did you see this? I checked my last bill and the only thing mentioned was something about FearNet (not HD).
Is this gonna be on channel 783 by any chance?

It's in the bill I got yesterday. 6/30. Doesn't matter for me however as I signed up with FioS today. Got the wife's permission to change email addresses !!! 25/25 mbps internet, multi room dvr,3 HD boxes total and phone for $20 less than I was paying Comcast. With Comcast I only had the HD DVR box, now i dont have to live with SD DTAs on the other HD sets.

What boxes do my fellow MA comcast customers have? I brought my DCT 3412 to the service center in Lowell this last weekend and I was told it was the newest they had.

i had a DCX3400 in mass a couple of years ago. here in NH i got the same box too. sometimes they dont have it in the service center but the tech has it in his truck.
It's a crap shoot at the service center. Call CS or schedule a anyroom install and then return one of the boxes if you want to be sure to get a 3400.

I've swapped boxes in Lowell many times. It's hit and miss as to what they have in stock, but some version of the DCX 3400 would be the newest currently. If you can find the 3400m (multi-room, but will work as a standalone) it has a 500GB drive.

I have a 3400m as a standalone, I got it from Lowell. It will be going back this Friday as I have my FioS install on Thursday. Maybe they will let you have it !

Heh, so I have to resort to tricks to get updated gear? Is there a way to call the local service center directly to find out what they have before going down there? I couldn't find a local number.

A new channel just became available today, LATV, which is WUNI 27.2 on channel 299.
Can confirm that in Bristol County. But we dont get WUNI-HD just SD on ch.17.
Is HDNet still coming as of 6/30. Have to live with Comcast, complex has NOT added FIOS yet.

Fall River has WUNI-SD as channel 53 and HDNet should come 6/30 unless otherwise noted.

It is just a matter of time for all of us. Here is the link, http://www.hd-report.com/2011/05/27/...st/#more-10973

I was looking to watch WHDH's Special Weather Coverage on Channel 21 CW56 but when i tune to that channel and WFXT channel 22 they show up as BTV (Bridgewater TV) on both channels

Is this temporary or is this an error? and is anyone else in Bristol County see this?

Edit: Found out its Comcast's Way to block Fox and CW Programming on both 21 and 22 during Primetime hours of 8-10pm weekdays instead of having a green screen with text anymore.

During the big storms the other day/night there was no coverage on the Providence's stations.

Been a while since I posted here! But for those not aware, here in Plymouth (and probably most of the South Shore, or at least old Adelphia places), we're getting a menu upgrade tonight.

Also we had a cable guy out a couple weeks, I had asked about the digital upgrade, all the new channels and such like.

He mentioned that Comcast has decided that these areas (the old Adelphia ones) which, for so long, have been the last to get everything, will not only be upgrading soon, but will be receiving extra over what the other areas got as kind of a "thank you for waiting" bonus.

So that's good news, hopefully the new menu is leading the way!

Got the upgrade overnight (14th going into 15th) in Duxbury - same as the Boston market guide from what i remember, and much better. Seems snappier like the other guide as well. Any word on what the upgrade will be adding? I wonder if it was in reference to the Boston market. Miss all those channels and from what i understand, it was one of the markets with the most content. If this market gets more than that, it would be *almost* worth the wait. Thanks for the info!

South shore here too I've noticed a few small things here and there

First apparently the picture in picture is gone :-( the swap button acsts as a last channel

Second the box doesn't seem to have a loud click sound when it turns on..it isn't a bad thing

Third some of the hd stations seem to have more of a screen when changing. It isn't instant but I Think this indicates they are adding more. The up and down buttons seem to work with the pvr rather than the menu which is kinda annoying sometimes.

Fourth the menu is much faster and more sophisticated.

Fifth the diagnostic menu seems to be disabled (holding select on the box and getting the mail icon)

and to add to that all SD channels are now stretched
lost the sleep timer
Sleep timer isn't that big of a thing for me since I have the dvr.
Yeah there's a lot of things I really hate about this system now. Most notably the functioning of the DVR listings, I like some of it, but the way I use my DVR becomes a pain in the ass. Not only do I use my DVR for new shows I can't watch live, but also for shows like Whose Line, Futurama, and The Simpsons that I like to "store" to watch when I go to bed or things of that nature.

Because of that, I had some 30-40 episodes of Whose Line stored, and since it stores recordings in reverse chronological order (and the "DVR Folders" option doesn't seem to work) it's a good 30 seconds of scrolling down to get to the first episode of Whose Line.

Lack of Picture in Picture blows. The fact that the arrow keys function as DVR controls is annoying. As surfing channels by actually checking up and down the actual channels is time consuming. So I'd just go up and down the channels to see what's on. I know you can press Select/Info and then scroll that way, but it's an extra step that I find annoying.

But there are some nice features. Would've been nice to get some new channels though.

you may have changed the 4:3 override when the box reset. I got confused thinking my box shut off by accident and messed mine up a bit too. to fix, turn off the box, hit the guide button - a user settings screen should show up (black with green/white text. Either choose 'restore defaults' at the bottom, or mess around a bit if you feel comfortable. The '4:3 OVERRIDE' if prolly what is causing the stretching.

Now if i could figure out how to unstretch the channel guide
