Maybe I'm missing something here.
Although clear Qam is nice don't get me wrong but at least in my town there are these free boxes people can get to get pretty much the analog channels (cable), ota hdtv and some of the digital (100+ channels)
Yeah the remote is small and there is no guide or on demand but it's free on your bill as long as you are a customer.
It was only a matter of time before cable co's cut off the old boxless concept. Back in the day with analog you could get nearly everything but pay per views and pay channels. Heck I know someone who dropped their service and plugged straight cable in and got it free for six months!
Digital cable and hd reports back to the cable company. It is no longer a one way signal. These boxes are not hackable for the most part. Supposedly some have tried but it simply doesn't report back and after a month the company knows something is wrong.
Some of the argue is also odd because there is so much streaming for pc's/laptops that it makes the concept a bit hard to argue it. it is easier to stream content on a laptop then it is to get clearqam to work.
I don't like the box fees myself and wish there was some competition but for the most part everything is gradually going to be streamed.
