Maybe I'm missing something here.

Although clear Qam is nice don't get me wrong but at least in my town there are these free boxes people can get to get pretty much the analog channels (cable), ota hdtv and some of the digital (100+ channels)
Yeah the remote is small and there is no guide or on demand but it's free on your bill as long as you are a customer.

It was only a matter of time before cable co's cut off the old boxless concept. Back in the day with analog you could get nearly everything but pay per views and pay channels. Heck I know someone who dropped their service and plugged straight cable in and got it free for six months!

Digital cable and hd reports back to the cable company. It is no longer a one way signal. These boxes are not hackable for the most part. Supposedly some have tried but it simply doesn't report back and after a month the company knows something is wrong.

Some of the argue is also odd because there is so much streaming for pc's/laptops that it makes the concept a bit hard to argue it. it is easier to stream content on a laptop then it is to get clearqam to work.

I don't like the box fees myself and wish there was some competition but for the most part everything is gradually going to be streamed.

So...it's almost the middle of July...almost. Still no word from Comcast about BBCA in HD. Any new news?

Anybody have the Tivo PremiereXL line that works with Comcast on-demand? If so, how is it? I am seriously thinking about the XL4 as having 4 tuners would be great plus 2tb storage. I use on-demand so I never considered Tivo before but now that it is available on Tivo in the Boston area I want it. Also, I wonder is the PQ is any better with Tivo. I know Comcast compresses the HD signal alot but I also heard that the Moto box is not great with PQ either so I was hoping that maybe the Tivo picture was a little better than the Moto.

I have a Tivo Premiere XL and the XFinity On Demand in the Boston Area (NH). It's been working great so far, no glitches, other than getting the cable card sync'd up correctly. The picture looks great to me, I've watched the first season of Game of Thrones on it. I would recommend it based on my experience over the last couple weeks since they turned it on here.

I hear getting the cable card sync'd can be problematic but glad it's working for you. I am definitely going out and getting the XL4.

Got my TiVo yesterday and I installed the cable card. Ran all the TiVo update stuff first, which takes a while, then called Comcast to provision the cable card. Nice lady from India chatted while she typed in the info I was directed to have ready. Worked the first time. Watching & recording shows. What an upgrade from my 2002 TiVo 2. Caveat, I have yet to try On Demand.

The new HD channels are coming! Well, one channel has arrived, anyway. Ovation HD is now on Channel 915 in Somerville. It's not nearly the channel it was a decade ago in terms of quality, but at least it's a start.

Time for me to get a Tivo XL4, I think.

I've had that channel for quite awhile now.

It's not at all unusual for different areas to have different lineups. The point is that those areas that had the digital reclamation last month can expect new HD channels to appear anytime now.
I would think overnight Tonight or Wednesday (Midnight to 5am) we would get the new HD's because that is the closest to the middle of the month.

Did you get confirmation from your friend that this is indeed happening?

Haven't gotten a new reply yet, if the HDs don't come in the next couple days i would ask if the launch was delayed.

Hmmm... So TiVo for xfinity now allows on demand??? Maybe it's time to finally get a TiVo box then...

Although the whole home dvr thing is nice.... As is the lower cost of a Comcast box...
I installed 2 Tivo Premieres last week. They have whole home capabilities and my Comcast bill went down by the same amount I'm paying to Tivo each month, so the cost is about the same. Plus the On Demand menus don't freeze all the time like they did on the Motorola boxes.

New HD channels are finally here!! They are as follows:

813 & 930: Olympic Basketball (just temporary I'm guessing)
820 & 931: Olympic Soccer (again just temp)
908 GMC
909 ID
910 H2
916 Bloomberg
920 BBC America
922 Natl Geo Wild
924 Fox Soccer

Impressive, I must say. I've been waiting a long time for this.

Wonderful! Dr Who in HD!!! What an amazing difference!! About time. Now all we've got to do is get TiVO to carry the listings (I know...it may take a while).

Got and installed mine just last week. No problems. PQ seems better with XL4 but I'm not a PQ maven.
I absolutely love the device. It replaced my old TiVo 2 standard def from 2002 and of course the Comcast Motorola DVR.

If Sprout HD or Disney Junior HD were added would they be considered waste of bandwidth? my niece wouldn't think so tongue.gif

Yeah, came to ask about Olympic Basketball HD (808) and Olympic Soccer HD (815). I'd imagine those are temporary?

I would guess they are, after the Olympics they could be good space for channels like SNY HD and CSNBA HD.

Longtime, first adopter Tivo enthusiast - I know my Tivo's 'cause I've had MANY. But did have a Motorola Comcast set in the house for ON DEMAND purposes. Got the notice from Comcast around July 1 to turn in the box. Checked it all out. Ordered a free Premiere from Tivo, and got a new XL4 for my main viewing room (replacing my TivoHD). THEN the fun began. Saw lots of threads recounting horror stories about doing self-install CableCards, so decided to have a tech come out and do that. An hour and a half on the phone with Comcast trying to get CableCards because none of the telephone answering service folks had any clue what I was talking about ("Ma'am, you can't get OnDemand with a Tivo box . . . "). While on hold, did a "chat" with Comcast technical folks. They had no clue either. Called Tivo and conferenced in a Tivo rep with the Comcast rep. We got transferred through a couple of departments until we got transferred to some other department and the wait time was over an hour. We hung up. Tried the next day, was transferred three times but then got someone who had heard of it!!!! She was really nice and (after about 1/2 hour talking to her supervisor) set up a tech appointment, but told me that basically no one at Comcast has any idea about how this is suppose to work - including herself or her supervisor which is why it took 1/2 hour to make an appointment. Tech came yesterday, and of course had no clue (called the office to confirm what he considered my dubious claim that this new Tivo box I had would get On Demand). Came back today (what's another day off of work?!), and between him and I, and a woman on the phone who handles CableCards, and MUCH patience . . . . . (here it comes) . . . IT'S WORKING!!!!! Of course I had to dash into work at 2 p.m. with some lame excuse, so haven't had a chance to really explore it.

My advice - you may be lucky and get some folks that know what they're doing the first time (like wouldn't you think Comcast might have at least a dedicated line for this Motorola/Tivo OnDemand transition????? for customers and tech reps???), or, get your best yoga ummmmhhhhhh attitude on (or sedative), take a deep breath, and start your Comcast adventure.

Seems like people are having better luck with the self install. A 10 min. phone call to a lady in India (dedicated cablecard line not 1-800-comcast) and I was up and running.
I also had a 10 minute call to Comcast (India) and the woman paired my cable card quickly and pleasantly. There is a special Comcast # to call AFTER you've installed the card (plugged it in) and configured the TiVo which takes almost an hour. 877 405 2298

I seem to only have these in Quincy:
