Anyone else missing info from their on-screen guide? I have all the listings, and the seem correct, but there is no additional info (episode name, description, teams playing, etc.). It's missing on all my boxes, not just one.

Seems to be occurring down here in Fall River too.

Not on the Boston / Brookline system bill.

That could actually mean that the station is canceling it, and not Comcast.

or a Rhode Island affiliate of This TV is popping uip

I did contact Comcast Boston PR to see if they could look into the pending removal and i was told i should get a reply back asap.

I can't believe how bad Comcast is these days, it's pathetic.

We moved into a new neighborhood, brand new U/G service, new tie to house, new everything.
The Boxes they installed in late December are brand new, I've never seen them before, and the installer said that they just got them in.
The boxes are black, and the guide is nothing like the old guide that was green and red.

Where to begin?

While watching live tv, the boxes (for no reason that I can see) at all just all of stop, as in the screen just pauses and then goes black, this requires a hard reset- which takes forever and a day- this just happened last night around 1:30am- I shutoff the TV, and when I started it this morning the screen was black- had to do a hard reset- this was on a standard box, but has happened on the DVR varia t as well.

The screen will have a ghost image of the guide on the right hand side sometimes, this requires a hard reset, which takes forever.
The DVR lost all of the bosses DVR'd shows all of the sudden...poof, gone
The DVR doesn't always tape shows, lately it has been getting worse- and she know's what she's doing.

The boxes seem to need hard cycling a LOT to fix stalls/blank screens/ghost images, etc... I have never had to hard cycle the boxes anywhere near as often as these new boxes need it...it's ridiculous.

They still have a very ridiculous small amount of HD Movie channel programming, I have all movie channels except TMC, and I think there are like 1 or 2 HD movie channels per station, I used to have Fios(moved- not available yet), and they had EVERY channel available in HD (like 5-8 PER movie company)...I had more HD movie channels with just HBO/Encore than I do now with all the carriers except TMC.

Totally pathetic, and this "service" costs $200 a month!

Do some areas still have WGBX-DT duplicated on both channel 818 and 801?

Looks Like Comcast in Miami has the IntelliStar 2, and still no word on when the Boston Area is getting it frown.gif
post #8443 of 8467
Also Orlando and Olathe/MO.

I just moved to the area and got Comcast Xfinity with a DVR. Couple questions. How long should it take for the guide to download? It's been overnight and is still only showing four or so hours ahead before saying 'to be announced'.

Also, how long should the online DVR manager take to finish 'syncing with DVR'? That's also been going since yesterday.
I don't know how long it takes the DVR manager to sync with the DVR I never had that problem.

The guide can take up to 24 hours before it shows 10 to 14 days worth of programing. If you have been waiting overnight you should have at least a week of programs available to view buy now.

Call Comcast, they will probably just refresh the signal and that will start the process all over again but call anyway and schedule a home visit by a tech. If your guide should fill up, as expected, you can cancel the tech visit. Comcast may suggest you go to the payment center and exchange the DVR. You can chose to do that or have the tech bring another DVR to you.

If the payment center is open on this holiday weekend I would go there and exchange the DVR only to have the problem solved sooner.

r.

One of the many disadvantages of Comcast I do not miss. Verizon gets it in a matter of minutes OTOH it has to do with HOW the guide info is sent.

For the DVR syncing problem, if it doesn't work right away it never will until you get a Level Two tech to refresh your account settings. Many of the boxes do not register themselves correctly. Unfortunately, something that should take ~ 30 seconds can stretch out for days until you get the right person. Be prepared for people who have no idea what you're talking about, people who tell you there's no such thing as a Level Two tech, etc. You can try emailing We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com.

So I got the guide working finally. I first chatted online with tech support. They tried sending a reset signal, but it had no effect. They sent a service tech over the next day to take a look at it. He said the signal looked good, aside from some minor noise, likely from a neighbor along the line. He swapped out the splitter to eliminate the line to one room that doesn't currently have a TV in order to try and reduce the noise, and then reset the boxes again.

12 hours later, the guide was still mostly TBA beyond six hours out, but had a few scattered listings beyond that. At the 24 hour mark, it was probably 90-95% populated up to over a week out. There's still a few scattered TBA's, but I figure those will be taken care of over time. Really disappointed it takes this long to populate the guide.

On a related note, is there any way to unplug the cable box without having to reload the guide data again? I'm waiting on the moving company to deliver the rest of my stuff in a few days and will be unplugging the box as part of setting up my entertainment system. It would be nice if I don't have to wait a whole day and then some to hope my guide loads back up.

Get an X1 box. The guide is fully loaded by the time the box boots up.

Last time I checked, the X1 box is still only available to Triple Play customers.
From what i heard from Comcast Boston the X1 is still only available to new Triple Play customers only. Current TP customers will get the chance to have X1's in the coming weeks.

That's still the case. He just stated he just moved in, but didn't specify if he had other services. I don't know if he doesn't have a triple play.

L Supreme: Over on the recorders forum, there are questions about how many usable tuners the X1 has. Do you happen to know?

there are 5 tuners. 1 for live tv & 4 for recording. It was 3; 1 live 2 recording prior to the 5/1.

I have "limited basic" service and have a Tivo (Cable Card), a digital converter box (on a small SD TV) and a HDTV that gets only the clear QAM limited basic channels (no box)
Today I stopped getting channels on the Tivo and HDTV, but its still working on the digital converter box.
I am in Bristol County (Rehoboth).
Did they start to encode even the basic OTA channels as well? Even if they did, the Tivo should still be getting channels?

......

after some reading, it looks as though they are even encrypting limited channels now. They aren't even offering HD DTA's yet.

I haven't heard anything about a roll out in Eastern Ma. I'll post something once a schedule has been announced.

Yes, basic encryption started this week. You should be getting them on the Tivo. Give customer service a call.
