It depends on what "resolution" you are talking about. HD 2.35:1 and 16x9 sources have the same horizontal resolution (1920) but different vertical resolution 1080 for 16x9 vs about 810 for 2.35:1. With an anamorphic lens and scaler, you will use the projectors full panel (1920x1080) instead of 1920x810 for 2.35:1 without the lens and scaler.
I realize that playing a 2.35 films on a 16x9 screen setup, one is not getting full resolution.
One is getting the full source resolution when displaying a 2.35:1 film on a 16x9 screen without a lens and scaler.
I take it by using a scaler in lens that 2.35 films should look as good as 16x9 films?
This is a matter of debate/opinion. I think 2.35:1 with a good scaler and lens looks the equal of 16:9 - even though 16:9 has more vertical resolution.
