Anyone see this yet? I hear the movies pretty good. I personally could watch it on cable but oh well. If the pq is solid and it has uncompressed pcm, I might pick this one up along with Manchurian candidate.

Picture quality is superb, as is the uncompressed PCM.

Care to tell us what tier you would put it in?
Just put it in, I skipped around a bit. There is a fair amount of detail. The robe that arthur dent wears is very very detailed. With that said, there is a bit of grain. Similar to xmen (perhaps the film used). Also, sometimes contrast seems weak making picture a bit flat. Still, look pretty good to me though. Won't be on the top of your list for reference material but I friggin love this movie. Very colorful, saturated in a good way relative to the HD version on TV.

A couple of more impressions - very inconsistent. At times this movie is super detailed, other times soft. At times very nice black levels, other times flat. A little light on features, maybe on par with the DVD. There is a movie showcase that just shows 3 scenes from the movie to show off HD - 2 look great, one looks very grain and soft.

I'm not saying that its not worth a purchase. Great movie, at times super beautiful. Can't comment on sound as its late and don't want to wake anybody. But its not gonna beat MI3 for example.

I watched the first half last night and found the PQ and SQ to be great. This is now one of my favorite discs since it also is a great movie, IMO.

Is it 16 bit or 24 bit?
Its 16 bit....and I agree with the poster who said the P/Q is inconsistent.

Lower tier 2 P/Q IMO.
Getting ready to watch this one...looking forward to it. Will post my comments afterwards. Fingers crossed!!
Thought it was a good movie, amusing, but not top tier video. Middle of the road to me.

But the movie's good and PQ isn't everything.
It's a little more consistent in PQ my opinion. Alot of scenes are just beautiful and there are only a few that are a little grainy but nothing too terrible. Lots of details, especially on the alien vessel. I say upper tier 2 to lower tier one. The audio is super with lots of fantastic LFE. Slim extras for what was supposed to be a BD-50? Not sure about that but I was pleased with it.

Received this disc from netflix. When loaded it wouldn't play and I got a message saying "DISC NOT PLAYABLE" and a code #0800.......etc.
Anybody else experience this?I'm using a 20GB PS3,FIRM.1.32
post #22 of 77
Hmm...I believe the PS3 firmware is up to 1.5 now, though I don't think it should effect a standard BD like this one. Maybe a bad copy?

Man, I just went to Best Buy and they didn't have it. This sucks. Sorry to sound like a teenager in angst (not a teenager), but I really wanted some quality Saturday night viewing . My local BB usually has the new stuff, so maybe I was just late .
