My codes are compressed and I use the PC version. The software does not do it, it is a windows function. I was intructed on how by D-Box support.

Good to know! On my 340c controller there is a D-BOX application called DataCompressor that compresses the motioncodes. What is it called in windows?

The steps were someting like this:

Quote:

Go to the D-Box codes directory (I have Windows XP) and go into that folder's properties. Click "Advanced" under the General tab. Under Compress or Encrypt attributes, select "Compress contents to save disk space." Then just apply this to the entire directory and its contents.

The amount of hard drive space the codes on my computer uses was reduced significantly and without any performance hit.

Thanks again. Now to find the time and the courage to start soldering.

Excellent, it should be a lot of fun. Just remember to completely desolder before you try to remove the old ones and less is better when applying the new solder. There are great how too videos on YouTube as well. Just be sure to check out ones from expert village (or equivalent) and not 10 year old kids

Good to see that there is a lot of support on this thread; helped me out a few times too already!

Is the D-Box coding crew taking a long vacation or something? They where pumping out codes really good lately, let s hope they will keep doing this in 2012. All they might focus on are some better release dates for some big movies. A codes release on the BluRay release date is difficult but max 3-4 weeks for the major releases is doable if you ask me.

Is it true that D-BOX is no longer selling their platform systems so that people can buy the actuators and make their own platforms? Are they only selling the individual seats or the seat platforms that fit around furniture?

They were on holiday for most of this week and probably a bit before that even, so you have to cut them some slack. Speaking of holiday, did you miss my question a page or two back concerning a Ring Blu-ray?

This was discussed here some.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=4233

The platform system they no longer sell was:
  • SRP-530 – up to 2000 lbs at $25,550 MSRP plus platform frame starting at $1273 MSRP (66” X 46”) and up
They still sell the following that can be used in a platform.
  • 4400I – up to 1200 lbs at $16,999.99 MSRP
  • SRP-330 – up to 1100 lbs at $9,999.99 MSRP (Comes in case, would need to be modified)
Both these options can be used under a platform if installed correctly. There may be another model available that I am not aware of as well.

Ok- so the 530 is gone. I am interested in the complete platform- not something that either directly lifts seating or integrates in to seating, because having you feet on the floor kills the effect, at least for me... So the entire platform moving is what I would prefer...

These can be used to move a platform as well, you just can't move as much weight as the 530 did and you need a taller platform @ 15" from what I can tell. Really, you should call D-Box and get their feedback before deciding only based on what we can tell you.

missed this reply. My mistake, the Ring is not on Blu-Ray. Slight change they will ever release it on BR, Dreamworks has been sold and sold and they are not interested in releasing older movies on BR. eg. Where are What Lies Beneath, The Haunting and of course the Ring......

You also need to be careful if you add anything so not to cause additional heat buildup.

Before removing the middle hub housing I asked D-Box the question about the rattling. They also asked me to record the sound it makes and send it to them so I ll give it a try to record it this weekend.

I also asked D-Box to look into another bug in the MCI software: when running the auto-startup function the Advanced settings cannot be selected. This is not a big issue for me, however, the Audio Delay that I set up earlier in the Advanced settings menu is not working in the auto-startup mode. It looks like the software chooses the 'standard' 0ms delay when running the auto startup mode. And I have to run on 85ms delay to get perfect sync which makes the auto-startup mode unusable for me.

+1

I've had my DBox system for many years, but it's sat on shelf while I finish up my home theater. It's getting close so I'm excited to start diving into this thread.

I'm getting close to the determing how close to place the aluminum platform (112" x 46") to the surrounding fixed platform and am trying to match the carpet height so they are the same when the DBOX is powered off. I'm using a roughly 1/4" thick commercial carpet. So I was thinking of leaving 3/4" space around the motion platform. That will leave a little less than a 1/4" after bending the carpet on both sides (Motion Platform and Fixed Surround Platform). For those of you already down this road, does this seem correct?

I've included a diagram.

Hi mcascio,

Congrats that you'll finally be able to use your D-Box! Hopefully you are using the SRP-530 actuators. I do not recommend the Odysee/4400I actuators for your platform.

They are the older Odyssee actuators. Not sure what model# though. I bought them before the newer ones were available. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to upgrade them unless there's a free sale going on.

What will I be missing out on?
No, you won't be missing out on anything. I'm just worried that you are pushing up close to the weight max of the actuators. Be sure to calculate weight with all chairs occupied. If they are recliners, then you should consider all chairs reclined, thus moving the center of mass further back on the back two actuators, which then may exceed the max weight of those two actuators.

The Odyssey XL are supposed to be better than the 530 if he happened to snag a set of those.

I'm not sure which model I have. I only see the Odyssee logo on the top.

I've sent an email to D-Box but am waiting for their response.

Here's a pic:

The seats weight 117 lbs each. Not sure how heavy the platform will be, but let's say 150 lbs. So that's about 500 lbs without anyone sitting down. I thought the capacity was around 2,000 lbs, but not sure.

Can anyone comment on whether my platform is being inserted correctly. I'd like for it the platform to be as hidden as possible. And then let people find out that the seats move after the movie starts.

Seriously, I have no experience with motion platforms, so I'm not sure if that's enough clearance. But I do have experience with losing things.

Here is what a set of the non XL ones look like:

Thxman, I'm almost positive the actuator pictures you linked are the ones used in the SRP-530 with a platform weight max of 2000 lbs. Thanks for pointing out the Odyssee XL model. I do not know the max for XL's.

Mcascio, your picture appears to be the Odyssee model with a platform max of 1600 lbs. D-Box should be able to confirm model/weight max for you.

Odysee XL (Model# 4600P) is 2400 lbs max. And it moves more than the 4400P and 530.

Here is an old video with that actuator. Look big.

Weight: 15 lbs (each)

Non XL specs:
Dimensions: 18" L x 3" H x 6" W

My friend replaced 10 caps (8 1000 uf and 2 1500 uf) and it lives again. At first, it was rebooting every 30 minutes or so... so I took the cover off to see if we missed any domed caps. While I had the cover off, it worked fine, and I've put the cover back on and it's continued to work fine.

Let's just hope it lasts!

Thanks everyone for the tips, and the well wishes.
