post #5941 of 6359
Staff from Dbox responded today and also informed me that the new code for Olympus Has Fallen has been released. For the record, it is almost three weeks since I first contacted them. Three weeks to simply resync a movie is not acceptable -- and as I note below, they acknowledged and agreed that it is not acceptable.

I forwarded to Dbox my suggestion that they start their coding efforts with whatever they have on hand -- be it a studio or Canadian source. None of us want that process to take any longer than necessary. But at the same time, I suggested that they order a US retail copy of every movie they code, and confirm that the codes work with US retail copies just as soon as they receive those US retail discs. My specific point is that this situation, that occurs periodically, should NEVER occur again. Never again should Dbox have to be informed by any of us that a code does not work. Based upon receiving a US retail copy, Dbox should already know that a code that they either are about to release, or have already released, has failed. So Dbox already knows this -- and we do not need to inform them, at least not for their largest market in the United States.

The response from Dbox to any emails reporting a failed code should then be "we are aware that the code has failed and will release an update within three business days."

Stress the words WITHIN THREE BUSINESS DAYS. There is no reason that resyncing a code should ever take longer than that. This case -- Olympus Has Fallen -- took almost three weeks from when I first reported it on this site and to Dbox, and that is flatly absurd FOR A SERVICE THAT WE PAY FOR.

Now, to provide some balance, and report on positive developments at Dbox:

I received a very positive response from two staff members at Dbox. The response was "bottom line is you are right that it is unacceptable and it shouldn’t happen. Rest assure that we take this seriously and we are putting efforts to overcome it." (To be clear, Dbox staff did not say that their solution is necessarily what I recommended, only that they are addressing the issue to insure it doesn't happen again.)

I consider that to be a timely and positive step, and am pleased to report that Dbox is addressing the concern. In their defense, it seems to me that movie codes are being released in a more timely fashion, and the web site clearly states when codes are to be released. For example, the new Star Trek code is due to be released on September 13. I also know that they modified their shipping policies within the last year related to repairs from the United States, which is another positive development.

Finally, I have generally found that Dbox responds to emails in a timely fashion, and did modify their shipping policies in direct response to a problem that I had, and suggestions that I then provided. (This case, where they didn't get back to me on a coding problem for two weeks, is the clear exception to what has otherwise been timely responses and corrections to problems that are reported.)

I am very pleased to report on these positive actions by Dbox, and improvements to the service. The Dbox motion chairs are a real hit in my home theater, and people from all over my area visit my home theater to experience it. I love Dbox, and am grateful that Dbox is taking steps to address our concerns and make their product and service even better.

If they can release all movies codes even more promptly -- well, we would all be thrilled and delighted. smile.gif

These are all positive developments, and I wish to thank Dbox for addressing these concerns and for their continuing efforts to improve the service.

You remember our topic from last year? In this topic you wrote a (very good) detailed step-by-step instruction how to config the virtual serial app. Since I m on W7 X64 I found a free version of a serial app you can find here http://www.hhdsoftware.com/doc/free-virtual-serial-ports/configuration-utility-overview.html. Was hoping you could write a step-by-step guide for this program like you did then.

Ok, I'll see what I can do then. Keep in mind that I will need to test this via my laptop (not connected to my Controller). I don't want to mess with my current setup since it is working very well. I'll write up the steps and have you test them. Looking at that app, it should not be too hard.

I assume your iRule setup is working, but you want to maintain some degree of control with your Harmony remote.

Thanks. Looking forward to it.

I m skipping irule completely. It does not add anything special compared to using a logitech hr.

i think so,Let's hope we see wider Studio support and also HD DVD-supported formats soon also.thanks P5zQBq

HD DVD??? I thought that was a dead format. Am I missing something? Why support a dead format?

I am currently trying to remote control my D-Box Series 4 via RS232 and it just won't work.

I'm not sure what to send to the controller. I'm using this document: http://www.d-box.com/media/docs/Downloads/Production/Files_914-0042-C_EN.pdf
The controller won't reply on any message I send. Parity, Stopbit etc. is correctly set. (19200-N-8-1)

I'm sending something like this:

this.comPort.NewLine = "\r";
char c = Convert.ToChar(20);
this.comPort.WriteLine("*0" + c + "RINPUT");

That should match the description in the document.. First char "*", second numeric id of controller (I already left that out as it is optional), then the separator char (ASCII number 20), R/W, command, carraige return.
But the controller does not respond :-(

Can anybody help?

Solved the issue... I just used the wrong document :-( Needed to use this one: http://www.d-box.com/media/docs/Downloads/Production/Files_914-0049-C_EN.pdf

Now everything is working fine. I disassembled my Series IV now and now are using the motion controller part together with my HTPC. This is just about 100 times faster now... it was annoying for me to wait about 5 minutes for the Series IV to start up and be ready for operation.. with my HTPC now everything is ready in 1 minute. Updates are much faster, too.

I am using the virtual com ports too, but not the one you linked to. They always gave me timeouts. I am using "com0com"

Edit: One problem remains: The control of the MCI control software via RS232 virtual ports doesn't work if you use the automatic startup mode :-(

I have the same issues with these virtual ports so far. Still testing.

Double-checked I am up-to-date on codes. No change, there is no sync. This is on the retail Zero Dark Thirty.

Star Trek Into Darkness codes? I want to believe you, but I don't see any mention of them on the site.

Check upcoming movies. Been there a while.

If I knew they were going to hit that quick on the codes (that must almost be a record), I wouldn't have watched it last night.

So... we're in agreement that the codes are NOT out yet, right?

I'll try my retail copy shortly, but how do you know when they update codes? I can't tell when they update previous releases.

Into Darkness was great with codes BTW.
