So a few thoughts and upcoming projects...


1. I am thinking about ditching the large DVD storage shelf in the back of the theater for a large binder to store the DVDs and Blurays.

2. Instead of the shelf in back as mentioned previously, I am thinking of a low console or end-table type piece and a couple of club chairs with small ottomans for foot rests/additional seating. Basically make a small lounge/seating area in the back of the room.

3. I will be looking into some desk/piano lamp options for the bar. Due to a lack of lights directly overhead, we have found a need for some additional lighting at times.

4. I am still eventually going to invest in a few more acoustic panels and possibly some additional sound treatments behind the screen (linacoustic, bass traps, etc).

5. Under cabinet lighting for the kitchenette.

To my last post above, can anyone suggest some lighting ideas for the bar?

Some basic requirements:

1. Reasonable size for both height and the base. I don't want these to obstruct the view of the screen. If I did a more traditional lamp style, I'd probably put them on the ends of the bar.

2. A clip-on style would be nice though not required.

3. Preferably black, antique bronze, brushed nickel/steel.

4. I'd probably buy 2-4 lamps, depending on size and style.

5. LED lights are OK as long as they aren't that cold bluish light so often associated with cheap LED lighting.

Holy crap there are a lot of options on those lights. Unfortunately I wont have the finished look of the Big Red Cinema, but I can still mount them behind the counter and have the lights snake up from behind.

Yeah... much too late. Plus the bay above the bar has the sewer pipes in there so my lighting options were (and are) VERY limited there.

We were saying how an extra set of can lights would have been perfect the other day.

I'm thinking about going with the LittleLites that kezug linked to. Very similar.

I may go for the RWB (weighted base) and use them like desk lamps instead of mounting them to the bar (at least initially).

My biggest question is how to tie the Littlites into the outlet I use for my bar light which is on an incandescent dimmer (Grafik eye which can dim LV, though the rope light is incandescent). What kind of transformer(s) or other hardware would I need to let me use the same dimmer for the Littlites (of any type).

I sent the company an email, but haven't heard back yet.

I'm still loving my AE3000.... great picture and I absolutely love the zoom/focus memory feature.

I will attempt to mount the base under the front lip of the bar and plug them into the same outlet as my under-bar rope light.

According to Littlite, you can't dim these as they use a switching power supply. They are checking to see if the 'fading' that I currently do with my rope light with the Grafik Eye will be a problem. If it is, I will change that zone to be off/on only which isn't a big deal since I always keep the bar/riser rope lights on high. I'll just lose out on the nifty fade on/off.

Thankfully no kids around here, though is worst comes to worst, I can dim them to try and cut down on the heat. This probably would have been a good reason to go with the low intensity ones though I was worried that they wouldn't be bright enough.

I got my 12" Littlites today and had a chance to install them! They are currently hooked into the riser rope light circuit, though if we decide to turn them off unless they are being used, I may put them on the same circuit as the Berklines since I had to do some creative work with the extension cord.

We decided we liked them best mounted under the lip of the counter. In retrospect, I kind of wish I got the 18" lamps but it's not worth changing at this point.

You can really see the browns in the bar counter with some direct light. Without the lights, it looks near black.

I give credit to the seller of the Littlites... shipped same day and from NY which is 1 day to MA for UPS ground. I was not expecting to get the lights until later in the week, in all honesty.

I couldn't let such fast shipping go to waste. They were also very easy to install.

On a side note... when the lights are dimmed, the hoods are only warm to the touch. On high, they do get very hot.
