hi guys,

this ones bugged me for a while now so thought i'd ask your opinoins

tv - samsung 42" (non hd) 852x480 resolution plasma

now then

i currently own an old philips 963sa which does prog scan (faroujda chip)

a friend of mine has just given me a samsung dvdhd850 - cheapish upscaling dvd player via HDMI

before i go rushing out and by a hdmi cable i wanted to know wether i'm wasting my time or not

does the faroujda chip in the philips still do a good job?

or will running HDMI from the samsung work a lot better

i'm a bit new to the hdmi thing - is it really that good??

regards

sam

HDMI is just the interface that will transport your audio & video digitally from your DVD player to the TV. This is compared to component, which send the signal in as an analog waveform, which must then be converted back to digital by the TV. HDMI keeps the signal digital all the way to the TV.

As for the quality of the upscaling between various DVD players, this has nothing to do with the HDMI, but is dictated by the quality of the video processing electronics in the players. The best way is to simply do a side by side comparison and judge for yourself.
