What VP for Mits HC5000 like External Processing?

I demoed a Mits HC5000, and the processing of VGA and component 1080i sources was very impressive.

An Xbox 360 for the first time looked crisp, not soft over VGA at 1080p , and similar results with my Dish HD PVR at 720p or 1080i.

What external video processor(s) that will give similar or better results, I understand the Mits uses a Silicon Optics HQV Reon processor?

I imagine that you would get a similar standard of processing in the Toshiba XA2 HD DVD player, Denon 3930 DVD player, Calibre Vantage scaler, Algolith Dragonfly scaler, and if memory serves me correctly, the Yamaha 1300 projector.

Quite what the performance difference is between the Realta and Reon processor is , I'm not sure.

HC5000 has HQV inside of it, why add an external processor to the mix?

Thanks for the replies, the reason is I loved the Mits Scaler, but found the projectors black level too high for my setup.

I'd like to add the HQV scaler to a DLP projector setup.

Currently, you've got to pay upwards of $2000 to get that performance in an external scaler.

Have you considered the new JVC 1080p D-ILA projector? It has comparable scaling / video processing performance.

What about those who have a prized collection of VCR tapes. Wouldn't an external video processor be better for enhancing the tapes before sending to the projector?

FremontRich,

I really don't know, it's a tough call - but I would generally avoid using VCR tapes with full HD projectors... In any case, I haven't tested the HC5000's compsite input, I have no idea how much of an improvement you would get from such a thing.

Fremontrich,

at seating distances that allow you to appreciate the full benefits of HD and even DVD sources it is not possible to enjoy a VHS image, even LD is VERY hard to bear on a digital projector.

Just keep a smaller analog TV for those tapes - that is where they will look best.

I regard your professional opinions highly, and i would also appreciate some input on the HC5000.

I have the HC5000 and a Yamaha RX-V2700 with integrated ABT1010 board.

In your opinion which one (Reon-VX vs. ABT1010) will do a better job with the 480i over component from my Escient 3x400DVD setup, as this is all the processing i need, as all my other sources are HD.

Thank you

The ABT1010 is not a deinterlacer, it is purely a scaler ASIC. I am not sure which deinterlacer the Yamaha uses, but I suspect that Reon-VX does a better job with 480i.
