Why can't I access the setup menu of the Denon 3803?

I am trying to access the menu of the Denon 3803 Receiver (using it as a pre-amp with Rotel amp).

I need to access the setup menu to adjust speaker settings, crossover, etc.

Whenever I hit "setup" on my remote the setup menu pulls up on the TV... then the screen goes black and I can't change any settings. The setup menu only flashes for a second. It doesn't show on the receiver itself either.

Any ideas?

The setup is kind of important . Especially with a new amp.

I am going from memory here:

If you are trying to OSD via component input to your display, make sure your display can accept 480i over component, as the 3803 only outputs 480i, if I remember correctly. There are also 2 video selections for OSD output, 1 and 2, not sure what the difference is.

To get it working, try connecting to your 3803 via composite, or s-video, this should work.

Not sure this helps, but this might give you some food for thought.

I'll try it. But shoudln't it still pop up on the Receiver itself?

With my 4802 you really had no recourse but to use Svideo from it to a display to set it up.

So it won't show up on the receiver itself?

My 3803 does not display the Setup on the receiver itself, I had to use a display device, I had the unit connected via s-video to my DVDO video processor, so I could not easily check the component video connection.

Okay - I'll try S-Video/Component.

Thanks. I'll let you know if I run into any snags.
