Archiving from my HR20

I want to archive some concerts I have saved on my HR20. I have a Dell 9300 laptop with the external TV tuner. The only recording software I currently have is the full version of Nero. Does anyone know if I can stream the concerts into the TV tuner via the S-video input and use Nero to manipulate the archive?

If not, does anyone know of any software I can buy to utlilize the TV tuner I already have, or if it won't work could you recommend a good software/hardware package to use?

Also..I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but is there any way to record the actual HD signal and digital audio coming from the HR20?

Thanks for any help and I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong thread!

If your "external tuner" has S-Video then yes, you can simply connect the relevant cables and use any video capture application (I'm sure nero has one).

Sounds like your tuner is a USB type with hardware mpeg2 (or maybe mpeg4?) encoder - it should have come with some basic software to record. I would suggest using that and then importing the clips into nero for making DVDs etc.

And no, you can't "record the actual HD signal", thank directv for not including firewire.

Thanks! Since I'm obviously new to the world of video recording...what's the big differences between mpeg2 and mpeg4 compression? In other words, if my external tuner only uses mpeg2 would I want to just step up and buy a hardware/software package that has mpeg4 capability?

It would help if you actually mentioned what the tuner IS.
But by guessing that its USB external, that *probably * means it has to do compression on the video it captures. You shouldn't need to *buy* anything, the tuner should have come with a basic point and click recording application that you can easily use to capture what you want.
