Greetings All...

New here, but am looking for some assistance...

Remodelling the basement complete with bar etc, and am upgrading the tv and the like...have been shopping and snooping around..

IN the room, there is no outside light coming in, i won't be doing any gaming at all, just mostly movies and sports with the tv...

Should i be looking at a rear projection, a LCD or a plasma...?

Any and all thoughts are welcome...

...later.

With a controlled viewing room, you can go with any HDTV you want. Which to get is just a matter of personal preference (CRT, plasma, DLP, RP LCD, flat panel LCD, or even front projection). IMO, flat panels are worse value than the others, especially for the larger sizes.

How big is the room? Will you eventually buy a Blue Ray or HDDVD player? Do you want to hang the TV on a wall?

The best value for the money/size are the rear projectors and you'll have to decide between the different technologies: DLP, LCOS etc.

Have you thought about how big you want the TV to be? If you're going to get BR or HDDVD then you probably want 1080P inputs.

There are lots of nice 1080P rear projectors in the 50"-60" sizes for decent prices compared to LCD's or Plasmas the same size.

If you want to hang it on a wall then you will probably be looking at either LCD or Plasma.

1. First pick a size TV you want
2. Decide if it's going on a wall or not

These two decisions will point you either to flat panel (LCD or plasma) or rear projector. After that it's a matter of how much to spend.
