[quote= but I installed a mirror on the back wall and all is well.[/QUOTE]

The problem with the mirror as I understand it, is that it will reflect the sound waves in such a way that they will bounce back and forth across the room creating an echo affect causing your speakers to appear out of phase. Perhaps if you angle the mirror towards the carpet, the reflected sound waves will be absorbed, and all will be well in the cosmos. Just a thought, of which I have few.

Not so with 2-way mirrors. As 2-way mirrors imply, sound can FREELY pass in and out. So you can aim it anywhere you wish, and it's sonicly transparent.

Chris, how far into the aperture should the green coating extend? Does this narrow the opening and add a venturi effect? I can see how that would speed up the setup procedure.

"but I installed a mirror on the back wall and all is well"

Just use a smaller object to reduce the unwanted reflections from the mirror……….such as a Periscope!
God... you people think I wouldn't consider the reflections? That's why I'm using a parabolic mirror! DUH!

The only drawback is that objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear. Can Audyssey help with that, Chris?

So the mirrors are in phase?

I purchased a B&W HTM62 center speaker and ran Audyssey again. I'm still running a 5.0 setup with two B&W loudspeakers at the front and the Z-5500 rear.

Left: -4.0dB
Center: -1.0dB
Right: -3.0dB
Surr Right: -6.0dB
Surr Left: -6.0dB

I noticed that going from a Z-5500 center speaker the center changed to a higher dB... I had thought that the bigger HTM62 would mean a lower dB change?

These levels do they have an impact on the speakers frequency range and how they perform, or is it purely how "high" they play compared to each other? I'm asking because the frequency range for my new center speaker is (-3dB) 55 - 22,000 Hz, so it having been changed (to -1.0dB) won't affect this right ? (Yes I know this might be a stupid question, i'm not even sure if it is related to each other or not.)

Oh and after the test it said that my center speaker was "Full Band", which I changed back to 80Hz... should I have left it as full band? Atm only my front is full band and my rear being set at 150Hz.

Thanks!

Thanks to Chris for explaining that the mics are set up for grazing. Once I got the cow and the grass in the room, the mic worked much better!

Jeees, I'd need more than some grass if I called my wife a "cow".

You guys are all getting enough sleep, right?

Those trim settings are effected by the speakers position in the room and the way it interacts with the room. However the main reason for the change you've noticed is the fact that the new centre isn't as sensitive as the old one.
Take...

The other thing to remember is Audyssey is measuring your room, not your speakers. And its okay to change that xover point back to 80. The sound in your room is not the same as the specs of your speakers. Its an important point of view to remember when looking at what Audyssey says it "hears" and fixes.

Was it easy to do yourself? Do I need a Pro Installer?

And how much did it cost, just out of interest.

Chris-

Any comments about Audyssey in the new Marantz PrePro?

Chris, as a spill-over from the Audyssey/SVS EQ1 thread, I was wondering if you could comment on what advantages (extra DSP capacity etc.) adding one of those forthcoming units might offer over an Audyssey Pro calibration of the same (two-sub) system? Thanks.

No matter what I do, I get a noise error when I run the automatic setting on my Onkyo 505, I've tried switching speakers (back/surround), etc. and more... the room is 100% silent.

Onkyo is sending a new mic. anyone have any problems like this?

Thanks, Cindy

Chris,

Now that the new models with dynamic volume have been announced by Denon, can you give an specifics about when that feature will be available for the higher end models? software or hardware update?

Thank you,

Thank you Yancy for the info:

I've been waiting for my swansong receiver to have Multi EQ, Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume. WOW!!! I thought I was going to have to wait another 12 months for an Onkyo to appear and now here it is in a Denon at a very reasonable price! Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

I don't know what the quality issues are of the Denon's, but they can't be any worse than Onkyo. This is one of those times I'm going to be the kid with the new toy on the block. Let 'em be discounted or not, I'm buyin'. (Now if only Circuit City doesn't bellyup on me)

Thanks Chris Audyssey Guru, thanks, Chris. By the way, from that pic on the post, you don't look half the geek I figured on...ok, not even a fourth; ok not at all.

(EDIT: just read another post about BB having Denon. Checked their site and they do carry the brand. Whew!!!)

Chris, in these new Denon models, will you need an Audyssey technician to activate Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume (similar to the Audyssey pro system)?

Chris?

Now you've done it. He won't be able to go anywhere without someone recognizing him and interrupting his day just to have their Denon Owner's Manual autographed.

I don't know for sure. I mean this guy does not have a pocket protector for his shirt.

I have to begin to wonder what the actual benefit to using the THX modes actually is, taking something like Audyssey into account. If a room/system have been EQ'd by Audyssey, and your system is set up to playback DD/DTS & HD audio (in any of the main formats DTHD, DTSMA, MultiCH-PCM), then what more can "THX post processing" offer over that? Just curious, looking for opinions. I know about their main items like "Re-EQ," "Adaptive Decorrelation" & "Timbre Matching," But aren't these pretty moot with a room setup with something as advanced as Audyssey?

I think 7.1 discrete channels moots all post processing modes with respect to deriving channels from where there aren't any. And I think Audyssey replaces/displaces re-eq and timbre matching. Some may still like their jazz to sound like it's being played in a cathedral though.

But part of "THX" is certifying A/V gear performance, and that will always be a benefit.

Yancy,

That info will have to come from Denon when they are ready to release it.

No, the end-user can do it on their own.

The main benefit of the new box will be that it will first time and level align the subs and then run MultEQ on them (either combined into "one" or individually). The filter will be of the same resolution as what is found in the Sound Equalizer, which is twice that of what is found in AVRs.

Chris?

Thanks Jim I'm not sure why I have that "are you talking to me??" look. This was during the press conference yesterday at the Denon Rep Council and I'm probably giving some deeply thoughtful answer to one of the members of the press.
