"Official" Audyssey thread (FAQ in post #1) - Page 1919

And one final question, I noticed when I looked into the all the data Audyssey collected, that it had every speaker set between -8 and -12. I remember reading in this post's guide that that is not ideal, so what can I do about it and why did it happen? Or should I just leave it alone?

On a side note, the distances it calculated for how far the speakers were away from the center listening area were all very accurate except for the sub, which is said was 19 feet away, when it was more like 7-8 feet. I once again read in the guide that this is not an issue, but let me ask this... When I am running Audyssey, what should I have the two buttons on the back of my sub controlling volume and crossover at? I am assuming right in the middle but figured I'd ask.

Thanks a ton for your help!

Hit the button called 'Standard'.

Here's the remote. I don't see a button with that, nor one for changing anything. Once again, I'm sorry if this seems dumb to you guys, I'm just getting frustrated over here.

What was the question? (sorry)

Speaker trims like that are fine - anything higher than the limit (-12) is good. You are probably confusing the advice with the advice for sub trim levels which, ideally, should be -3.5dB to + 3.5dB - but the sub has an amp and the advice is to ensure the amp gets enough signal and also doesn't clip on the input.

This will explain how to set the sub controls - pay special attention to the crossover setting on the sub:

f)3.   How do I set the controls on my subwoofer before running MultEQ?

Very interesting article/interview with Tom Holman on Audyssey, dated from 2007. Explains more about the 'secret sauce' than I have read before.

I'm trying to figure out how to get the sound to matrix to all of my 7.1 speakers.

Right now, after tinkering with something, its only using the 5.1 setup, and the rear surrounds are silent. I cannot figure out how to change any of the settings on the Denon 2113ci to Pro Logic II, or any other setting.

Curious question here.

Specifically for 2EQ, what does Audyssey's calibration do to the lower frequencies below the assigned crossover frequency set per speaker? Does it still adjust and EQ the lower frequencies even though it may select a higher crossover with calibration?

For instance: My calibration set my fronts to 60hz, however my sub is too boomy, and not having an EQ for the sub, I tried setting my front crossover to 40hz (lowest allowed by my AVR) and it does take out some of my boomyness from my sub, I then ran some bass sweeps, and to my ear there are no major dips in the scale when comparing to how it was originally set, so, am I losing anything by doing this?

Would it make more sense to make this change, or to just turn on THX S2 subwoofer and enable BGC? (which is what I was doing prior)

Colored SOUND MODE buttons at the bottom. Each one should scroll through listening modes for the movies, music, etc.

If that works, smack your forehead.

if it were my older Denon, I'd turn the remote over, open the door, and press "menu" then scroll around to find the place to select different modes.

I'm sure it will, and I'm prepping myself for a major headache. Will let you know if Motrin works or if I have to step it up to scripted painkiller within an hour.

AFAIK, AUdyssey corrections roll off around the -3dB point detected in room. Which may be at least slightly different from the crossover setting. It's not a brick wall but fewer resources are applied as you go below the measured 3 dB point, as I understand it. Of course 2EQ isn't doing anything to the sub. If lower crossovers sound better, perhaps they are better. Certainly for you they are. The only laternative I might suggest is to simply adjust downward the sub level while retaining the higher crossovers, just to see if the results are more pleasing. Without measuring it's all you can do. FWIW, before I slightly rearranged my room, every Audyssey run left me feeling a need to drop my sub a couple of dB (must've been an untamable rogue room effect in a range that bothered me) so that the sound was good using dynamic EQ.

Ok guys i need some help/guidance...the only way that i can get "satisfying bass" for my preference is to either set the line level in the avr at +5 or greater or leave it at 0db and increase the gain on the sub amp. if i leave it at the audyssey level there is just not enough oomph. (one example is TDK 58min mark-gun demo) it just doesn't have the slam at calibrated levels. i have a svs pc13u in a very large room 6k+sqft all open. i'm assuming this is what i have to do at my current room size...no? any other better suggestions?

I am looking for the least expensive AVR with MultEQ XT. All I need is 5.1, however I think MultEQ XT units are all 7.1. No problem. And I am fine with buying a "pre-owned" unit from eBay ... or someone from AVS. I have Audyssey's chart open in another tab, and have the Integra 40.3 on another tab. Can anyone tell me the Onkyo equivalent to the 40.3? What would Denon have to offer in an "entry level" MultEQ XT AVR?

Thanks!

Jeff

^^^

if you can find a denon 1712, that'd probably be your most inexpensive decent xt option...

^^

Thanks. I have four units I am comparing right now - Denon 2112ci, Denon 1712, Onk 876 and Integra 40.3.

A friend just bought a 1712 refurb from AC4L and looks like they still have some in stock.

Found a 2112ci here on AVS and am evaluating that listing now ...

Onk/Integra has had me as a happy customer for quite a while, but this looks like my opportunity to try a Denon.

they have 2112's for ~$370 plus shipping.. So I need to weigh "new" refurb against "brand new condition" for $425 from an AVS member ...

$369 is very tempting. Anybody have any dealing with Accessories4less? And experience with Denon refurbed units?
AC4L has been around for over 10 years, often recommended in this forum, but only recently (Oct 2011) becoming a Denon authorized refurb reseller. Although there have been a number of defective 3312CI's shipped to them from Denon, I haven't heard of any issues with the refurb 1712s. A 1 year warranty is provided on refurbs and your credit card provider may add a 2nd year (Amex does this for sure). Note however, that AC4L doesn't accept Amex, so you would have to use Paypal with an Amex card assigned to the Paypal account.

I'm considering a refurbed 2112ci ... hear anything about them?

Nope ... just the 3312CIs.

Yep. In this case, their left hand doesn’t seem to know what their other left hand is doing :)

However, I have news. According to Fedex tracking, the F2s have been handed to 'authorised agent for final delivery' which I assume to mean that Customs have finally let them go and they are on their way. No scheduled delivery date as of yet though....

Bedroom surround system presently has an Integra 4.5, a "pre-HDMI" unit. I just pulled the Denon 2910 DVD player from the system to give to a niece. I have a Panasonic BD-30 that I will put into the system, and that means I need HDMI to use lossless audio formats. And I wanted MultEQ XT.

Keith, Mrs. Wilberforce should be able to get those for you easily.  she has proved herself very witty in these affairs.

I've spent less than $10 to get the trigger. Sure, it is not 12V but 5V, but works perfectly and with pretty good chance will work for others also (assuming basic soldering skills). The solution is USB to mono-jack adapter, connected to the USB socket at the back (assuming it is unused for other purposes).

You can also likely just use a smart power strip in place of the 12v trigger.
