Patrick has given you the right answer. If you don't have enough speakers right now, disconnect the Wides and use them as surrounds (note: not REAR surrounds). You will then find that Audyssey will run properly for you. You can add Wides at a later date if you wish.
Follow the '101' linked in my signature - this is the easiest way to get a good result. It doesn't matter if you don't understand the reasons behind each step at this stage - just follow each step closely and you are all but guaranteed a decent calibration first time around. Let us know if you get any problems.
Thank you both so much! I will re-do without the Wides for now & try again once I get the Surrounds mounted & fixed properly on the walls. Can you offer any guidance as to the speaker type selection issue on the 818 - is "Normal" the equivalent of "Small" do you know? I ask as I want to get things right but I am also running small satellite speakers & do not want to blow them by pumping bass into them that they cannot handle!
Your guides are fantastic - I have downloaded all of them & will be referring to them on a regular basis so I can learn more & get things right to make the best of my system - some of the techie stuff is beyond me now but hopefully I'll get to understand it in time!
